Smear: L.A. Times Lies About Cornyn’s Comments on Sotomayor

Today the Los Angeles Times lies to its readers about Sen. John Cornyn’s statements on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.” Here’s what the L.A. Times says:

Only days earlier, Cornyn said in a radio interview that it was “terrible” for conservatives to be attacking Sotomayor as a “racist.” But today, the senator did not reiterate those sentiments and pledged that he and other Republican lawmakers would probe deeply into Sotomayor’s past comments and rulings to see if her heritage colors her ability to make fair decisions.

The hell he did. Yes, he said Republicans would closely examine her record. But he never said that Republicans would seek to learn whether her “heritage” would affect her ability to be a fair judge. In essence, the paper is saying, Republicans are concerned that Sotomayor might be a poor judge because she is a Latina. That is an outrageous distortion of Cornyn’s comments.

Rather than focusing on Sotomayor’s ethnicity, Cornyn focused on Sotomayor’s statements and rulings. Cornyn said Republicans were concerned by Sotomayor’s ruling in the New Haven firefighters case, and her comments about how she would be a better judge because of her Latina heritage. The focus was on her actions and words, not on her “heritage.”

GOOD! This is the way they SHOULD handle it. The media will play it up that a “No vote” is discriminatory, just like they did in the November election with Obama. Anyone who didn't vote for him was a racist. I was very disappointed in some of the early comments attributed to Sen. Cornyn. I've always thought highly of him, but to flat say there wouldn't be a filibuster disappointed me.

I contacted Cornyn since he is my senator and read him the riot act.

We'll have to see how this plays out and we will have to put as much pressure on the senate as we can.

Boy, isn’t that the truth! After listening to the “Republicans” regarding the issue, I have come away thinking that she did nothing wrong at all...heh. Now I know that she is actually “racist” (Only by listening to several other news media - C-Span is great) in attitude and governance...Not a problem though, the Democrats will pull her through...

Long live our beloved (liberal - no contests, absolutely no minority defensive attitudes - well, they are almost Democrat anyway) Republicans!... May they be in minority power forever!

LAT might have lied, but Cornyn is fast becoming a bona fide RINO.

Good. Maybe if more of his constituents did that, he wouldn't be so ready to just vote her in. Wasn't he a judge before he was in the Senate? If so, he should know her decisions and comments from the bench are unprofessional. She is not qualified for the position (like someone else we know). That is all they need to judge her on.

One night this week, Roland Martin, subbing for Campbell Brown on CNN asked a rep from a Hispanic group:
“ What will the Hispanic community do
when Republicans go after her ( Sotomayor ) because of her ethnic background ?”
And then the panel had a discussion about this-as if it was factual.
No one disputed the premise.

Didn’t Cornyn recently slam people for listening to Rush’s criticism of Sotomeyer because Rush is an unelected official??

and let’s not forget Cornyn’s support of Crist over Rubio. That’s an unforgivable leap to RINOhood right there!!

He was on the Texas Supreme Court.

I told him that if Rush Limbaugh had all this info on her, how is it possible he doesn’t?

I think some of them (the good ones anyway) get so caught up in their own little world, they forget about the rest of us out here. They don't listen to Rush or any other conservative host; they don't read conservative papers; they don't really associate with the “common people”. It's good that they are reminded how we in the real world think.

Then, there are those who know exactly how we feel and think and don't give a *%&@ (Pelosi, Frank, Schumer, Dodd, etc.). All they care about is money, power, and being reelected.
