SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea has moved its most advanced long-range missile to a new launch site and has banned ships from the waters off its west coast through the end of July, news reports said Monday, moves that threaten to exacerbate tensions on the peninsula.
The missile, which has arrived at the Dongchang-ni launch site on the northwest coast, is believed to be a version of the Taepodong-2 rocket that the North fired on April 5 saying it was a satellite launch, the South Korean Dong-a Ilbo newspaper reported.
The North could fire the missile as early as June 16 when South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and President Barack Obama hold a summit in Washington, the paper said, citing unidentified officials in Washington and Seoul.

SEOUL, May 30 (Yonhap) — North Korea appears to be preparing for a long-range missile test, an informed source said Saturday, defying the U.N. Security Council whose members are negotiating a resolution to punish it for its recent nuclear test.
The source, asking not to be identified, said an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) was recently spotted on a cargo train near Pyongyang, the North Korean capital.
The missile has since been moved to an undisclosed location, according to the source.
“It usually takes about two months to set up a launch pad, but the process could be done in as little as two weeks, which means the North could launch a long-range missile as early as in mid-June,” the source said.

SNIPPET: “A U.S. government delegation is winding its way through Asia this week to discuss how to respond to North Korea’s latest nuclear test.
U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg is leading the group, which arrives in Japan Sunday.
The delegation includes Stuart Levy, the Treasury Department’s undersecretary on terrorism and financial intelligence. Stephen Bosworth, the U.S. special representative for North Korean policy, also is expected to be part of the mission.
From Japan, the delegation travels to South Korea, China and Russia. The countries are part of stalled negotiations aimed at ending North Korea’s nuclear program.
U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Saturday that the United States would not accept a nuclear-armed North Korea.
He said Washington would hold Pyongyang “fully accountable” if any nuclear material or technology is transferred outside its borders.
Speaking in Singapore, Gates said painful sanctions may be the only way to peacefully end North Korea’s nuclear program.
North Korea has threatened to take retaliatory action if the United Nations Security Council slaps it with new sanctions.”

Bet it launches on June 14, which happens to be another American holiday (Flag Day).
What if this nutcase fires off a ICBM nuke somewhere far out within international waters ? Is that not the next progressive step in his sequence of escalation ?
Although I wouldn't put anything past the PRNK, I would guess that they are years away from creating a war-head size nuclear device.
America tested it's first nuke, a comparatively low-tech nuke to what would later be developed, in 1944. It was 13 or 14 years later before we tested our first ICBM with a nuclear package. And, we were the richest country at the time dedicating a tremendous amount of manpower and money.
Even if they had help, I would think it would half a dozen years before they can make a weapon small enough, and light enough to put into the nosecone of their very small ICBM.
My bet is on another 4th of July fireworks show coming from Lil’ Kim.
