NAPOLI - A 20-year-old man from Cattaraugus faces charges after leading Cattaraugus County Sheriff's deputies on a 3-mile chase in his horse-drawn buggy.
Jonas J. Hershberger, 20, of Cattaraugus was charged with overdriving animals, second-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree obstructing governmental administration Monday after Hershberger, attempting to elude deputies investigating a stolen horse and buggy, drove through fields and into woods near Napoli.
He led authorities through roads, fields and eventually through the woods, where he stopped the horse and fled on foot. Deputies didn't find him at the scene but recovered the horse and buggy, which were brought back to the person who reported them stolen.
A short time later, Hershberger was taken into custody at his home on Frank Road. He was arraigned and sent to the Cattaraugus County Jail in lieu of $250 bail.

The 20 year old has an Amish name but evidently is not a member or the press would have been all over it. From what I have read elsewhere, there is harrassment of the Amish in many areas, and this sounds like an example. Unusual news to say the least.

...charged with overdriving animals, second-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree obstructing governmental administration... ....and the charge for theft?

Poor horse. The Amish don’t have a good rep when it comes to the way they treat their horses.

Apparently he was driving his own horse and buggy and was only being stopped by deputies as part of the investigation. There may be more to this horse tail but I expect his mom will be nagging him now to rein in his drinking ad driving habits. After leaving the buggy he hoofed it home like the posse would never think to look for him there? He'll probably take a whipping in court, more form the spectators than the judge all of whom will have a good horse laugh over this one. The guy will probably have to live with some nick name like the Cattaraugus Kid for the rest of his life. That's what you get for acting like a horses ass.

He’s a little old for rumspringa. I’m thinking he may have chosen the way of the english when he did.
Or...he could just be Amish gone bad or not amish at all.

Was Jonas driving a white bronco? Good thing the local cops have a fly-swat team.
Jonas may be required to turn in his buggy whip and take buggy driver ed!
