Eagle Scouts need not apply. Valedictorians, ditto.

So you say English is your native language? Tough break, kid.

You live with your mother and your father? Strike 2.

Never been arrested? Strike 3, you’re outta here.

Come back after you drop out of school, or get pregnant.

Now comes the latest memo from the Department of Transitional Assistance, formerly known as welfare. If you liked the welfare Cadillac program, you’ll love the “DTA Youth Works/Summer Employment program.”

The Office of Transitional Assistance says your kids cannot get a summer job unless they are unskilled, pregnant, or from a broken household.

Something tells me these are going to be jobs like video game auditor, skateboard park inspector, basketball hoop surveyor, and soap opera interpreter. IOW, you get paid for doing nothing. Gotta love those government jobs. A few summers of this and the kids will be qualified to run for President.

a summer government job you mean?

A lot of kids would still go out and get their own jobs without the DTA

My cousin’s son worked for the State Parks department(Indiana) as a summer job last year. He worked out well, and was told they would hire him back this summer. That was pre-stimulus. Because our governor took stimulus money, the jobs HAD to be given to the “disadvantaged.” He is out of his job. His father is self-employed, and mother works part-time. I’m not sure if it will affect his continued education....

Sotomayor would rule this as a Special needs law that is not Discrimatory.

This is no different than Robert Reich saying that white men won’t get stimulus jobs.

Best and brightest, not in government jobs anyway.

My son, Eagle Scout, Valedictorian, nationally ranked gymnest, got a great summer job coaching gymnastics at $15.50/hr.

He don’t need no stinkin’ government job. He never will (I hope).

well, gymastics might be ok, but did you know here in ever-so-careful NYS, no “child” under 18 can get a job that involves the use of “dangerous equipment”?

In other words, they can’t drive any machinery, like a power mower or weed whacker, a deli slicing machine, or anything else that might pose a wicked danger to life and limb. I am guessing that paper shredders might qualify.

Your son obviously has a talent that will get him a good summer job, and I hope his good fortune continues. What happens when a lesser ranked or qualified gymnast gets his summer job because he is from a “disadvantaged” situation?

What happens when he can’t even mow grass because he is under 18?

Good question.
Well, it’s the owner’s business, and he can do what he wants. But by doing so he is opening himself up to competition that will eventually put him out of business. And it might even be my son that takes his business away.
Who knows?

Yes, who knows!

Us over-privileged middle class white parents will just have to be clever, plant Gobi berry bushes, and have our kids hand pick them for “upscale vegan folk” at 50 bucks a pint, or something like that.

Anyone want me to get some seeds started? Will sell seedlings so you can grow bushes that your kids can pick and dry to fund college costs. If they are good with computers, maybe they can set up an on-line business.

(Sorry, am in a very bad mood tonight. Must be a .gov overload bearing down on me, and this should be considered in the dark sarcasm category.)

How much will you pay per seedling?

Old lady falls off the couch, laughing so hard she can’t quite make it to the “powder room”.

After she recovers her composure, she hauls out the 20 inch thick IRS tome, trying to find the section that pertains to the depreciation schedule for Goji-berry plants.

But, figures that it will probably change by next year, so she better sell them with a “disclaimer”, and a proper warning that these must be picked by hand, and every picker should check with “Acorn” first, to make sure they are “qualified” to do the picking. They better not have two bio-parents still living together, yada-yada, or else no picky-or-payee!

(sarc, maybe?)

When are Democrat voters going to get it into their minds that their party is the natural enemy of all people who are honest and responsible. Dems love irresponsible losers, losers vote Democrat and that is all that they care about...the more losers the better.
