It's custom in JAPAN. I watched it several times (my stomach has its limits) and Williams was quite awkward with the maneuver, not at all spontaneous as it would be in Japan. The whole thing looked a bit staged to me.

Bowing is a custom in Japan, to show deference to one’s
“betters” It is NOT a custom in the United States!

When I was in Japan on the way to Korea, I would bow my head in imitation of the Japanease. It seemed rather humorous at the time.
