I have a lib sister in law who loves the slasher movies but cannot handle raw chicken. It grosses her out. This is an attitude that I have noticed with other libs too, they like to see the gore but cannot handle really dealing with it on a personal level. I cannot stand to watch those kinds of movies and have no problems with butchering chickens. It seems to me to be a problem with accepting reality and dealing with it, not just watching some type of fantasy on the screen and not having to clean up the gore. I can just imagine how sister in law would react if she had to clean up something like she likes to see in the movies, the whining and crying would be epic.
Your mention of how your sister in law would react in having to clean up the mess in the movies - reminds me of a very sad time when a friend from church helped clean up the back yard after another friend had committed suicide. Real reality.
