Graduating students defy ACLU

Members of the graduating class of 2009 at Florida's Pace High School have expressed their objections to ACLU restrictions on statements of religious faith at their school by rising up en masse at their ceremony and reciting the Lord's Prayer.

The incident happened just days ago, but has been virtually ignored by media outlets throughout the region, according to officials with Liberty Counsel, a legal team representing Principal Frank Lay and teacher Michelle Winkler in their battle with the ACLU, which had complained that faculty and teachers were talking about their beliefs.

Nearly 400 graduating seniors at Pace, a Santa Rosa County school, stood up at their graduation, according to Mathew Staver, president of Liberty Counsel.

Parents, family and friends joined in the recitation, and applauded the students when they were finished, Staver told WND.

"Many of the students also painted crosses on their graduation caps to make a statement of faith," the organization reported.

"Neither students nor teachers shed their constitutional rights at the schoolhouse gate," said Staver, who also is dean of Liberty University School of Law. "The students at Pace High School refused to remain silent and were not about to be bullied by the ACLU.

"Schools are not religion-free zones, and any attempt to make them so is unconstitutional," he said.

This is a demonstration of what I've been talking about for a long time. Conservatives need to take up civil disobedience.

WE ARE NOW THE COUNTER-CULTURE.

From open carry to demonstrations of faith like this, we need to be challenging the liberal status quo by openly and audaciously defying it.

This is an encouraging event that I hope will continue to happen in other areas of this country. Everyday people standing up en masse exercising their rights such as this is something tha the ACLU cannot abide. More demonstrations, especially from the young, will further the cause of freedom that we cherish as much as life itself.

As Americans we have an duty to defy authority which would usurp our constitution.

This would be great if the media cared about and actually reported what they are supposed too, but they would shun the event.

This is another problem we have in this country who gives a FFF what the DBM sicks 0'cluck news has to say about anything?

FWIW, the ACLU has been after PHS for years to get them to get rid of the Bible Literature class.

The Pace Patriots have hallways named after Founding Fathers and require the seniors to take and pass the citienship test.

Also, PHS is nationally competitive in their marching band and JROTC programs and is in the state playoffs year after year in football, baseball, and weight lifting.

Also..fwiw....4 of my kids gradutated from PHS!

An unjust law is worse than no law at all when the administration is 100% liberals...common sense!

“I’d love for the whole country to do this on the six o’clock news”.

...great idea! Coordinate it like the tea parties. The lord’s prayer followed by a minute of silent prayer. I would imagine loads of people/christians would participate.

“me too, but the six oclock news would ignore it and call it NOT news”.

...that’s no reason not to do it. The tea parties got noticed and the MSM hated it. Local news would cover such an event.
