God bless your dad. How lucky you are to still have him.
Please let him know that for some of us (and I suspect many here on FreeRepublic) that EVERY day is Veteran’s Day.
And one more thing (if it isn’t too much bother)...please tell him he didn’t fight and suffer in vain. He passed the baton to us. And while things seem troubling now, please tell him for me:
We are NOT going to let him down.
i have that flag. it lies in a box in my attic, undisturbed. i feel so strongly it BELONGS somewhere, and i don't want it to deteriorate but i do not know what to do with it. it bothers me that it may die with my family, when it belongs somewhere.
i realize it represents hate, but there is something so magnificent about knowing that my dad and the other G.I.'s were there when they took it down. what a moment to witness, after having lived under the domination of such monsters. he said, when they drove through the towns in jeeps, the french resistance fighters ripped their shirts open to reveal the French flags wrapped around their bodies in silent defiance. never have i admired the French before.
i don't know what to do with it.
