Psychological State of the Union

Many Americans don’t feel the thrill associated with President Obama’s “Change” as it has an adverse effect on their “Psychological State of the Union”. They liked their country the way it was before it lurched to the political Left. For those who mourn and grieve the loss of their Country there needs to be some consideration of their emotional, psychological and mental health. After all, these are the people who bought into the “American Dream”. They fought in wars and went to a job they may not have enjoyed to put sustenance on the table for they and their family. They never asked for anything extra, nor did they take away from anyone else.

Anxiety, depression and grief are now a part of the everyday lives for many in America who once believed that their heritage was individual freedom and the ability to determine their own destiny without the encumbrance of government intervention or debilitating taxation. Since September of 2008, they have watched their individual savings accounts become slashed by upwards of 50%. In addition, the price of their homes have fallen by a commiserate amount. The reason for their losses have nothing to do with irresponsible actions or behavior on their part; it has to do with corruption. This corruption is directly attributable to authorities both in and outside of the government. However, it has continued unchecked and unbridled.

Those responsible for the losses, incurred by Americans, both emotional and financial, have continued to influence national policy rather than sustain the punishment their dishonesty warrants. In addition, the current President seems to sanction or encourage such behavior as evidenced by the appointees and staff with which he is surrounded. In every segment of government, the pendulum of authority has swung in the direction of increased and unaccountable governmental power rather than the integrity and transparency that was built into our Constitutional form of government. In many ways this is a true indicator of this Administration’s Constitutional accountability.

Many Americans feel the loss of the nation that was a part of their birthright and heritage. They feel overwhelmed, insulted, grievous and ignored. This translates into one of two things: either severe anger or severe apathy. Neither is a positive thing for society at large nor individuals. Once a significant segment of the population, especially the dedicated and patriotic group, looses faith in their government the way these people have, society as a whole suffers. This will become more and more apparent in the months and years to come. Take away a person’s dream and you take away their motivation as well.

Attention must be paid to those who are currently suffering the loss of their country. The government has the power to evoke the kinds of protection of the corrupt that they have, however, they are lacking the authority. Continuing to usurp the resources of these people in order to redistribute them among the Wall Street elite, government entities or the “have-nots” is not a sustainable solution. Some might call it “theft”. Actions of this nature breeds contempt and it is only a matter of time before that contempt translates into actions of some kind.

As evidence of this coming discontent, Judge Sotomayor was recently nominated as a potential Supreme Court Judge. She was nominated by Obama and automatically perceived to be Politically Correct and bigoted, mainly because of her association with the President. On Tuesday, June 1, 2009, on the streets of Philadelphia, a mob beat a “person of interest” in a rape case, nearly to death. These people no longer have faith in their legal system or they would not have taken the law into their own hands. Overseas investment is doing a land office business as investors are pulling out of the American market. The sale of gold, as an investment, has skyrocketed. All of these indicators point to a lack of faith in America, by Americans and their emotional well being is suffering accordingly.

In China, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner attempted to bolster faith in American currency among the Chinese in order to secure continued funding of American debt. They laughed at him! He assumes the Chinese to be as stupid, ignorant and gullible as this Administration assumes the American people to be. Americans are not as stupid as this Administration assumes. It has been some time since anyone has had the temerity to laugh in the face of an American official while representing the United States. The American citizens, who are enduring such insults, require and deserve some type of recompense as their emotional identity is being shattered by this Administration and an activist Congress.

The fact that the stimulus money has been slated for social engineering purposes as well as facilitating the re election of Democrats, has not been lost on Americans. Soon, Americans will be facing a war with Iran. Will America have the resources for this exercise or will America’s precious recourses have been squandered? Soon this misguided Administration will attempt to inflict “Socialized Health Care” and a plethora of “Politically Correct Energy Policies” on Americans. The sole goal of the Environmental Movement has been to move resources out of the hands of private individuals and into the hands of governmental authority. The American People will not sit still for this!

When an Administration or Congress continually behaves in an adversarial way toward the will of the people, there is a serious problem. Most Americans are simply overwhelmed with the daily assault on their freedoms and the divergence of the goals of their leaders. Either they will be content with becoming “Subjects”, dependent on the benevolence of the government or they will retaliate. Either way, this does not bode well for the “Psychological State of the Union”.

The British crown deprived more and more of their citizens of their faith in government, their motivation, dreams, and treasure on these shores once upon a time.

Those people too became upset and disallusioned.

The results, after the blood letting, ended up very badly for the crown.

...as Sophocles wrote well over 23 centuries ago :

Far-stretching, endless Time
Brings forth all hidden things,
And buries that which once did shine.
The firm resolve falters, the sacred oath is shattered;
And let none say, "It cannot happen here".

Anxiety, depression and grief

That about sums it up nicely. You could throw in some righteous anger at being robbed, too.

I dunno about the nation but I worry that I’m fairly close to a nervous breakdown.

I have *never* felt so unsafe, insecure and fearful for the future as I do now.

*Every* time I have the misfortune of seeing or hearing that ‘thing in chief’, MacBeth springs to mind;

“By the pricking of my thumb, something wicked this way comes.”

In Stephen King’s “the stand”,one of the characters quotes a poem from Yeats,(I think).Something to the effect of :What rough beast, his time come round at last,slinks towards Bethlehem.Or it’s at least close to that. Sorry for the butcher job, but you get my point. I’m scared too.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in the sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

Just before the “election, I sent out e-mails to everyone I know quoting this poem.

With very few exceptions (Sal being one) peop;le thought me an alarmist, melodramatic nut.

If anything, it understates the case.

I’m not scared. I am friggin angry.. Angry at the dups who voted for this guy and the media who continue to fawn all over him, and mostly at Obama who thinks the US was evil, and needed to be “transformed”.

Very difficult to watch and listen to the news, which is all Obama , all the time.. Non stop coverage.

Yes, something wicked this way comes. Of that there is no doubt.

That distant thunder that you may hear rolling through far-off hills is war.

War is coming. Here. Soon.

And, like my father before me, I am prepared. I am prepared to honor my oath to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign AND domestic.

I may be older and slower, but that doesn’t mean that I won’t go down swinging.

So what are you doing to prepare for it?

The ancient Greeks had more to teach us about the the fallibility of human nature and the fragility of civilization than anyone else, I think. The classics are no longer taught, just for that reason - that sort of education exposes the pedigree of collectivist ideas.

This is interesting:
Yeats said, "I began to imagine [around 1904], as always at my left side just out of the range of sight, a brazen winged beast which I associated with laughing, ecstatic destruction", noting that the beast was "Afterwards described in my poem 'The Second Coming".
Laughing, ecstatic destruction seems to be an apt description of what Barry is up to.

Thanks! It’s been years since I’ve read that.I felt that it rang true even back in’79, the first time I read it.
For over twenty years my “friends” and relatives laughed at me, called me a conspiracy theorist,etc.Living in wisconsin,one of the deepest blue states, you can see my dilemma.I too am very angry,disappointed,and yes, a bit scared at whats happening now.But the really GREAT thing is,NONE of those people are laughing at me anymore,in fact many of them either refuse to speak to me, or they hang their heads in shame because thet are realizing what they’ve done.

There’s a big-screen television in the cafeteria where I work. It’s on 24/7. No matter how frequently I turn it to Fox, it ends up within an hour on the Communist News Network (CNN.) I see our Revered Leader or a story about him or Michelle almost every time I walk through. I see them on magazines in the supermarket and the TV in the doctor’s office. (I threw my own TV set away.) One day I was getting coffee. The Revered Leader was on the set saying something like “It is a false choice between yadda and yadda” and a black hourly floor worker, who I know only by sight, whispered into her cup “You know, I’m just getting sick of hearing his voice.” Only the two of us were there and I doubt she would have said it if there had been any other blacks. But if we get another shot at a free election (all A.C.O.R.N.s aside) I don’t think he’ll get 95% of the black vote. Of course, by that time he’ll have 20 million illegal alien votes and the votes of everybody he’s redistributing wealth to.

It’s not just white males who are feeling the problem. It may be, perversely, that The Sainted Revered Leader will indeed unify the races; in opposition.

One other thing, has anyone parsed out O.’s garbled gumbo to see if he’s actually said anything? I hear him and I wonder, “What the heck did he mean by that?” It’s as if he turns emotions into words. Emotions aren’t thoughts; they’re emotions. Maybe I’m emotionless, but I look at the people in the Cafeteria and they’re staring in rapt attention

“These people no longer have faith in their legal system or they would not have taken the law into their own hands.”

Of course not. People are fed up with being victimized and being told to get over it. We wouldn’t be the country we (still are) are if we had been apatheic when the breaking point came.

” He assumes the Chinese to be as stupid, ignorant and gullible as this Administration assumes the American people to be. Americans are not as stupid as this Administration assumes.”

Of course not. Just because someone has a good nature does not make them stupid.

“The sole goal of the Environmental Movement has been to move resources out of the hands of private individuals and into the hands of governmental authority.”

Which may actually result in a literal tarring and feathering.

I for one am sick of my taxmoney being used for each and every single trendy cause that celebs are able to get the government into taking seriously.
