Freep mail me to be on or off the Daily Bread ping list

Risk
Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time. —1 Peter 5:6

When our children were young, one of our favorite board games was Risk. World conquest was the objective. Each player mobilized his troops to take possession of countries and continents. It always amused me that the person who initially was leading the game seldom won. The reason is obvious. When other players sensed his mounting pride, they would join together against him.

Whether consciously or subconsciously, it is easy to dislike powerful people who have proud looks. Their very countenance seems to encourage others to throw obstacles in their paths or to be silent objectors.

In today’s Bible reading, we are told that God hates seven things. Tellingly, the first is pride. When someone overvalues himself by undervaluing others, he inevitably reveals it with his proud look. Puffed up in self-conceit, he may also devise evil and sow discord. No wonder God hates proud looks.

Proud and powerful people may think they can disregard others’ displeasure, but they cannot disregard God’s opposition. Peter reminds us not to trust in ourselves but in the One who will exalt us “in due time” (1 Peter 5:6). As we submit to Him, we avoid the risk that pride brings to our character and we become thankful, humble servants of God.

Naught have I gotten but what I received;
Grace hath bestowed it since I have believed;
Boasting excluded, pride I abase;
I’m only a sinner saved by grace! —Gray

No one can glorify self and Christ at the same time.

Good evening, (((Lauren)))!

Thanks for the great thread about this Naval Air Station.

It’s near where my son was stationed; namely Langley AFB!

We visited several times and really enjoyed that part of the
country.

I imagine my husband and his brothers have seen some of this base. Their dad was career navy and stationed at Norfolk for quite some time.

EVERYONE

Good morning to our
AWESOME
military, our allies, and their families

Thank you, Lauren, for preparing the Canteen for today’s activities.

Now for our local DC Metroland weather report

~ Today....Mixed clouds and sun with scattered thunderstorms. A few storms may be severe. High 89F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 50%.

~Tonight....Scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially during the evening. A few storms may be severe early. Low 67F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 40%.

I can tell you by first-hand experience that we are having a heck of a thunderstorm. High winds and scary looking black and white clouds. The winds have died down some but the sky on the horizon is still dark and angry looking.

Saw a strange cloud formation hanging over the DC area when I got to work. A long, white/gray cloud that looked like there was lightning in it. Can't remember seeing one like it before. And, then the angry, black clouds and winds moved in.

Oh well, it's Tuesday - you know what that means? That's right.....it's......

It has been estimated that at least 33 percent of blondes in the U.S. are not natural. (note: well DUH!)

The term "cocktail" was invented in Elmsford, New York. A barmaid named Betsy Flanagan reportedly decorated her establishment with the tail feathers of cocks. One day a patron asked for "one of those cock tails." She served him a drink with a feather in it.

With few exceptions, birds do not sing while on the ground. They sing during flight or while sitting on an object off the ground.

Time for me to make my rounds. But, you stay right where you are.

Now remember, the Canteen is ALWAYS

So, come on in and sit for a while. There's always plenty of coffee, pancakes,

conversation, silliness, and plain old BS

REMEMBER THEM

DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allied military and the family members of the above Honoring those who have served before.

(many thanks to the incredible U for all the cute graphics)
