WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Newt Gingrich was the keynote speaker at Monday night's fundraising dinner for the Senate and House Republican campaign committees, but it was Sarah Palin who stole the show.
The Alaska governor's last-minute appearance at the GOP's biggest fundraiser of the year ended 24 hours of speculation that the she might skip the event. A late attempt to have her speak at the dinner fell through when organizers feared she might upstage Gingrich, the onetime House speaker.
Hours before the event was slated to begin, an aide to Palin would not confirm that she would be attending. But when Palin and her husband, Todd, sauntered across the stage with Gingrich and his wife, Callista, shortly before the program commenced, their appearance was met with cheers from the audience of 2,000 party loyalists.
Sen. John McCain, who shared last year's Republican presidential ticket with Palin, greeted his former running mate as she made her way to her table. Soon after, the former GOP presidential nominee tweeted: "Great to see Sarah and Todd at the dinner tonight -- nice reunion!"

CORNYN, GINGRICH, MCCAIN, PALIN
positive article
Personally, I don’t think they were watching Newt anyway. Palin stole the show just by showing up and no doubt she’ll be speaking in future RNC events. She can pack them in and raise money.
Just my two cents.
Love Sarah!
MCCAIN.
What did I win? ;>)
Another thing. It was mentioned in another posting that CNN would probably love to have a Palin vs Obama “rematch” in 2012. The ratings would be big (which helps the MSM’s bottom line....eyeballs watching the TV).
Wouldn’t be surprised if the MSM tries to “pump up Palin” until the general election when they’ll try to tear her down (McCain redux...”friend” at first then enemy in the end).
Just my $5.00 (ajusted after inflation and future currency plunges)
I love the wit around here.
I’ll add to your 2c. As of now, I do not see anyone who can challenge Barry Sotero aside from SP. Name one other GOP contender who can manage 20,000 people to show up in a small city in a blue state like NY on the weekend...
I love Palin, but even though Newt would be a hard sell to me, I would underestimate or count him out.
The correct answer was Palin. The other three were RINOs. Newt is on and off the reservation. He is smart but sometimes he sounds like a RINO.
I’ll ditto your post Max Americana.
>He is smart but sometimes he sounds like a RINO.<
Looks like one too, all cozy on the couch with Nancy and all.
GMTA.:)
I so agree with you....Newt is so smart but he’s starting to sound like a candidate....hedging his statement and not speaking from the heart.
I know he’s good but he sure ain’t gonna help himself by going weak now.
Sarah never will go weak - that’s why I LOVE her.
Yep.
Go SARACUDA! She has more balls than any of the men in the republican party.

SP is something special. I can’t explain it. it’s like she knows us and we know her. It is not idol worship. it is a true connection. This is a time of peril in our nations history. You get the feeling that she is destined to be President.
Infact, when I first saw her on TV from Dayton, Ohio. Almost right away, I thought to myself.. “she is going to be our President someday”.
It was funny how during the break all the pubbies gathered ‘round Palin to take some photos. They want to sun them in her light.
