GOP congressman warns against 'cow fart tax'

GOP congressman warns against 'cow fart tax' @ 11:32 am by Michael O'Brien

A tax on bovine emissions could hurt American farmers and consumers, House Select Energy Independence and Global Warming Committee Ranking Member James Sensenbrenner (R-Wisc.) warned Tuesday.

Sensenbrenner condemned a proposed tax from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on cattle and some pigs on the basis of those animals' methane emissions, which contribute in part to global climate change.

"This cow fart tax shows how outrageous the whole global warming and climate change debate is," Sensenbrenner said during an appearance on Fox News. "It might be more civilized. The EPA calls it digestive gases. We all call those farts."

The Wisconsin lawmaker, who leads Republicans on the committee overseeing the effects of global warming, said the taxes would be passed on to consumers who buy animal products.

"Well, the average Joe, when he goes to the supermarket and buys any kind of dairy product or beef or pork is going to end up paying through the nose to pay for the cow fart tax," Sensenbrenner said.

He said the issue was "no laughing matter," and blamed a Supreme Court decision giving the EPA wide leverage for regulate greenhouse gases and emissions for leading to the current situtation.

"Now, you know, I wonder if the EPA is going to say you can get an exemption from this tax if you put a catalytic converter on each end of the cow," he said. "I wonder what the Humane Society would say about that."

"This is not feeling like a career high for me," Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly deadpanned during the interview.

“Satire”

Nope. Last figure I heard was a tax of over $l00.00 per head for cattle and a little less per hog. Don’t know about the deer and antelopes yet.

These were considered the “low hanging fruit” of the Obama revised tax power structure. Seems that things aren’t working out as well as he hoped. However, late night TV finally has an angle on humor, if indirect, at this Administation.

May I step forward?

And propose?

That all federal workers making more than 50,000 a year be forced to go into the pastures and collect this tax in person. I am putting the coins to pay the tax in the pies the cows lay in my field.

Politics 101

1. If it moves, tax it.
2. If it breathes, tax it.
3. If it smells, tax it.
4. If it complains, tax it.
5. If it dies, tax it.
6. If it pays off in cash, subsidize it.
7. If it votes right, subsidize ir.
8. If it might vote right, grant amnesty.
9. ... and etc ...

Poor Bessie gets a bad wrap with THE FOCUS on her FLATULENCE, as she body gives releases this baterial reaction MOSTLY in her belch! When I see this ongoing mis-reporting by even the GREAT ONES like RUSH(tsk tsk..effects his error rating!)..makes me want to..

Most enteric fermentation occurs in cow stomachs, not her intestines, so most methane emitted by a cow - up to 98% is through belching, not farting.

"This 2% of U.S. emissions has warranted some serious belch studying. Microbiologists are attempting to engineer gut bacteria that don’t produce methane as a byproduct. Aussie researchers are attempting to introduce kangaroo flora to cow guts, on the pretense that kangaroos don’t belch or fart as much methane as cows do."

Bessie has become a governmental guinea pig!

Ya know....that is a really FUNNY comment, HILARIOUS of the laugh out loud variety. And I needed a good laugh today. THX.

It seems that congress's job has become to look in every nook and cranny for a way to get more of our money to provide for their RIDICULOUS programs, regardless of the harm it does to the individuals being TAXED TO DEATH.

It is INCREDIBLE to me that our congress does not pull back, begin major cuts, regardless, again, of who may have to seek a different job, and stop the spending in order to balance our books and protect our people from further burden.

They have abandon their constituents in the search for more dough to fund the ridiculous.

They have lost the fact that it is a worthy and satisfying sacrifice to work hard to achieve the American dream which is WHY some never achieve it...and that is the correct outcome.

Just ask the little Red Hen.

How about a hypocrisy tax? Everytime a politician promises something but goes back on his pledge, fine him.
