Sure - the US doesn't want a potential mess in the gulf thrust on it, not of its own choosing. But in fact that is up to Iran at all times, not to Israel, and Iran is deterred in the matter by US military power, not placated by inaction by the US or by Israel.

Iran would make trouble purely in order to try to get the US to pressure Israel politically. But as soon as Israel decides it can and will tell Washington to take a hike, Iran has no more cards.

Obama will make it logistically very difficult for Israel to attack Iran. He will embargo military supplies to Israel, deny overflight rights through Iraq and do as much as he can to prevent the Israeli submarines from getting into position and launching attacks. He will probably cut off all military intel sharing and satellite information and will threaten Israel with dire consequences if it attacks.

He would rather intimidate Israel until Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah and Syria attack and Israel is overwhelmed. He will then issue a statement deploring what has happened but we all need to move on to a brighter tomorrow...

The talking-heads all bitched when Israel took out Saddam’s nuke plants, but silently thanked God it shortly thereafter. Even the Saudis were secretely praising Allah that Saddam wouldn’t get nukes.

Me-things it would be the exact same situation all over again, although Israel would face much more short-term danger from Iran’s proxies - and it would be a much longer bombing campaign.

I think you underestimate the implications of all out war between iran and Israel. We would be very lucky if the only fall out to the US was 300 dollar a barrel oil and 8 bucks a gallon at the pump and for an extended period of time. The additional fuel cost would deepen and length the depression.

having said all that, waiting until Iran has nukes will result in a war that changes the world. I'm for Israel bombing the crap out of them. But we are in for rough times when it starts.

Obama will do nothing.... Israel will be at war with the Middle East & Muslim Extremists & We will have to watch another Holocaust.

I agree that Obama will do nothing...except condemn Israel, but I doubt there would be a general ME war against the Israeli's. The Arabs hate the Iranians as much as they hate the israeli's and they all fear Israel's nuclear capacity. Their will be a lot of very heated rhetoric and the 'arab street' will raise hell but all that will blow over. The Saudi's and Kuwaiti's and the rest of the Gulf State Arabs don't really have any reason to fear any kind of unprovoked attack from Israel...the same can't be said for Iran.

I was thinking more along the lines that even if our Mullah-In-Chief does not let Israel overfly Iraq, Jordon and the Saudi’s just might. They’ll just claim that their radar system where down for maintenance or some such nonsense when the attack actually happens. Remember that whole region of the world is real big into the “enemy of my enemy..” bit.
