Chinese testing their subs against our anti sub systems. Got pretty darn close. I would say the acoustics on the new Chicom subs are very good.
I wonder though if it happend when the sub hunter went right over the sub. If so then we had them nailed to the wall.

A towed array is a passive system - basically a whole lot of very sensitive microphones on a long cable. Active/passive.

The screw up is the Chinese sub driver NOT the destroyer. Somebody is going to find his pork fried in the riceNah... The destroyer would have been miles away from the actual array; out on the other end of the tow cable. The sub driver probably had no idea that the McCain was even there.

How many of these “incidents” between China and the USN does this make since Hussein took office?

I notice it doesn’t say whether the destroyer knew of the presence of the sub. Obviously the sub didn’t know where the sonar array was...

Working ASW most of my life ... that description of a towed array made my day.
So what radar do you think they were draging? An APS-147?

The funny thing is that when they hit, the noise went ‘WANNNGGGG!!!’ and 12 guys in the sub asked “Did someone call me?”

An “inadvertent encounter.” Kind of like when the car behind you creeps up and taps your rear bumper as you sit at a stop light at 2 in the morning.

Yet another naval accident involving John McCain? I believe this ship is named after both his father and grandfather...can't think of to many ships with "names" named after more than one person, The Sullivans come to mind.....don't think Mr. Sedona has anything to do with this one, other than being a relative.

I wonder how much the Chinese were involved in our past election ? ..
Lots because 30 minutes after obama won I wanted another election

Could they have been intentionally trying to rip it off, so they could have a closer look at the technology?

Doesn't anyone in the MSM take the time to properly research, write, and edit their "work product" anymore? What, from the people who regularly bring you stuff like "assault rifle" for anything that goes 'bang', "the gun accidentally shot the child", and "right-wing extremist"?
To: CodeMasterPhilzar
They probably got it from Wiki.

whatever system the Kenyan wants them to have
sonar radar it makes little difference to the Teleprompter in chief

Misleading title....the Chinese sub did NOT hit the USS McCain....it hit the sonar array.

(I voted for Sarah Palin on November 4, 2008. John McCain just happened to be on the ticket.)

Yes, USS McCain is named after the senator’s father and grandfather, who were both Admirals.
