In what a U.S. military official calls an "inadvertent encounter," a Chinese submarine hit an underwater sonar array being towed by the destroyer USS John McCain on Thursday.
The array was damaged, but the sub and the ship did not collide, the official said. A sonar array is a radar towed behind a ship that listens and locates underwater sounds.
The incident occurred near Subic Bay off the coast of the Philippines.

Chinese testing their subs against our anti sub systems. Got pretty darn close. I would say the acoustics on the new Chicom subs are very good.
I wonder though if it happend when the sub hunter went right over the sub. If so then we had them nailed to the wall.

Nah... The destroyer would have been miles away from the actual array; out on the other end of the tow cable. The sub driver probably had no idea that the McCain was even there.
How many of these “incidents” between China and the USN does this make since Hussein took office?
I notice it doesn’t say whether the destroyer knew of the presence of the sub. Obviously the sub didn’t know where the sonar array was...

The funny thing is that when they hit, the noise went ‘WANNNGGGG!!!’ and 12 guys in the sub asked “Did someone call me?”

An “inadvertent encounter.” Kind of like when the car behind you creeps up and taps your rear bumper as you sit at a stop light at 2 in the morning.
I believe this ship is named after both his father and grandfather...can't think of to many ships with "names" named after more than one person, The Sullivans come to mind.....don't think Mr. Sedona has anything to do with this one, other than being a relative.

Misleading title....the Chinese sub did NOT hit the USS McCain....it hit the sonar array.

Yes, USS McCain is named after the senator’s father and grandfather, who were both Admirals.
