Riot police beat protesters with truncheons as violence flared yesterday following Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s landslide re-election – amid allegations of widespread ballot-rigging.

thousands protest over ‘rigged’ election...

Why can't they be more civilized like we are... we seem to have more and more ‘rigged’ elections, and you don't see us rioting.

... but maybe we should!

I see the demographic bomb is starting to blow up on the aging millionaire Mullahs that took power in 1979 and are still clinging to power.
Iran had a massive baby boom in the 1980s. A major portion of the country is all under the age of 30 now. The mullahs have not brought them the properity and oppurtunity they continuely promise. For being one of the biggest oil exporters in the world, they still have one of the worst economies on the planet. There is a lot of resentment towards the billions being sent to fund Hezbollah that lets them live extremely comfortable lives in Lebannon, while many Iranians are at the poverty level.

As Rush said, the president of Iran is purely symbolic, because the real control comes from the mullahs. But obviously, the people wanted to pick their own symbol. Furthermore, Iran’s economic situation is quite grim, and even though Bambi has been drooling over Ahmadinejad, I think his name is heavily associated with economic misery and that’s something that really gets people stirred up.

Bambi will probably bring himself down here by creating such misery that people will be clamoring for his birth certificate as an easy, bonfire-free way of getting rid of him.
