TEHRAN, Iran — More than 100 reformists, including the brother of former Iranian president Mohammad Khatami, were arrested Saturday night, leading reformist Mohammad Ali Abtahi told Reuters.

"They were taken from their homes last night," former vice president Abtahi said.Authorities released the former president's brother, Mohammad Reza Khatami, on Sunday, his wife said. She said at least two other top leaders of Iran's largest reformist party, including the party's secretary-general, were also released early Sunday, but that others remained in custody.

Additional arrests were expected.

Iranian officials, however, disputed the claims and said the reformists were merely summoned and "warned not to increase tension." (snip)

From the article:

More than 100 reformists, including the brother of former Iranian president Mohammad Khatami, were arrested Saturday night, leading reformist Mohammad Ali Abtahi told Reuters.

Reports that Mousavi was under house arrest could not be confirmed, but the 67-year-old former prime minister has not been seen in public since he gave a late night press conference Friday where he accused the government of voter fraud.

Let’s see how Mr. "Hope & Change" responds to this.

Let’s see how Mr. "Hope & Change" responds to this.

He already has responded. He calls it a robust debate.

Prayers lifted up for these courageous Iranians (and for Mrs. Don-o after the bike accident).

Yea, rioting in the streets is one form of community organizing, eh?

I specifically want to hear his response to these arrests of the political opposition.

Thank you. I read a suggestion that this may be the time for Israel to make her move. Add Bibi to prayers.

Yeah, I know. But there are times when the enemy of my enemy is my friend (maybe not friend but at least tolerable).

My concern with that would be if it caused the various factions to unite behind a threat from outside. I’d say, covertly arm the reformists and let them force a change from within. Bombing the nuke facilities will end the emergent revolution.

I have no clue what Israel’s best move is. I do know (strongly suspect) they have “war gamed” all scenarios.

In my amateur opinion. co-opting and turning the military would be most desirable.

I love the smell of pessimism in the morning. Smells like defeat.

In reality, world leaders can be irrelevant when the populace is aroused to act.

Time to re-instute Radio Free Iran...of course, the Kenyan poseur probably will not do this becasue he does not to offend fellow raghead Muslims. With millions of fairly educated young people, the time is now to foment as much internal dissention as possible.

Although, to be sure, when that happens, the "leadership" usually tries to pick an external fight to unite the country against the "new external" threat. Get the popcorn.
