Protesters who claim the vote was rigged clash with police for a second day. The government denies that two of the president's challengers are under house arrest.

Reporting from Tehran -- Protesters angered by alleged vote count fraud erupted in street violence for a second day today, throwing rocks and setting fire to storefronts as Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad defended his reelection as "free and real" in a press appearance before local and international journalists.

Vigorous and assertive, Ahmadinejad vowed to maintain his tough foreign policy posture in his second term. Afterward, he appeared before a massive rally in his support in Tehran's Vali Asr Square, with thousands of supporters waving red, white and green Iranian flags and banners with religious slogans.

I'm still having trouble believing Obama and the libs were naive enough to think there would be a “fair” election in Iran. After all, the RATS are the ones who steal elections in this country, did they not know their counterparts in Iran would do the same thing?

The Obamacoms are very fortunate that the people now living in this country are a bunch of fat, lazy slobs who have become bored with freedom and democracy. Otherwise, this same thing could have happened here on 5 November 08.

obama is hamstrung by his own bad policy in next door iraq. for years, he has called a country that has had several free and fair elections a failure. he can't even admit that it's a won war.

so now he's stuck with precious few options with regards to the stolen election in iraq.

I don't think they thought there would be a fair election. I think, they thought, that they could actually influence the election. Just by talking.

the president of Iran's own election monitoring commission has declared the result invalid and called for a do-over.

twitter chatter has multiple reports of Arabic-speaking riot police (Iranians speak Farsi). The regime may be importing thugs to crack down on Iranians.

Huff post has live blogging going on. Latest post: Just got off the phone with my dad. He leaves in northern tehran... He said that most iranians believe that a lot of the basijis [plain clothes officers] on the bikes are hezbollah arabs brought in to do to the citizens what a persian cop would refuse to do. Accordingly when the protesters knock one of the basijis off their bikes they are being particularly brutal, believing that the rider is arab. Regular uninformed cops are not being pursued with the same anger.

Same pattern as Tienanmen Square -- bring in people who will feel no connection to the people being stomped, and who do not speak their language.
