“Well, I had to shoot him..He might’ve hurt himself!”
I wonder if that's going to be a defense.

I come from a police family. My mother, 3 uncles and a grandfather were all cops...(my mother was only a special officer who was called in to witness processing females, the rest of the time she was chief dispatcher) and GOOD cops. That 40-60% may be high but not by much. Police departments attract alot of steroid pumping muscle brained bullies who couldn’t function in society if not behind a badge.

Where is there evidence these officers did not know what they are doing?
If you go to stop someone from cutting them selve and you end up shooting them to death then YOU DID IT WRONG!

I have only work worked for two different Offices. Fortuantely, both Sheriffs let it be known that it would not be tolerated. I have seen people fired and if applicable, charged.
It is encouraged to report behaviour that is illegal or in violation of the GO.

They can taser a 75-year-old woman at a traffic stop.
They can taser a chihuahua (before shooting it).
You’d think *this* would be a perfect situation for a taser.
But no.

How do you know these officers werent in danger or threatened? Again, please report your eyewitness account because they need your information. Then they should have retreated from the scene! Left the bedroom...called for competent help. I've stated that several times already. I don't have to be a witness to make common sense judgements.

I guess they didnt understand that they were there to try and save the guys life. BINGO!!!
To: Cathy
Oh my God, so now cops cant shoot people.
Are you freaking kidding me? They shot they guy they came to save. Yes, cops should not do that. They can't claim selfe defense if they escolated the situation. Just like I can't go pick a fight with a big biker dude and then shoot him with my legally carried gun and then claim self defense. If I start or escolate a fight then it is not self defense.
If they thought going into this guys room would help then they were clearly wrong. Period. They made a mad call. I am SURE the guy did something stupid. However had the cops made the rigth call they would not have been in the position to have to shoot him. They were in control of when and where and how the confrontation too place. They chose those conditions. They did it wrong. They should be held accountable. When 'failure to follow police instructions' is an instant capitol offense then we all become slaves.

Elitest I have a life. You need have to have a forum to spout stupidity running rampant in your brain. Been here quite a while, actually. What would you do if your parents started charging you rent?

I have to support the police on this one.
First of all, his relatives called the police, so *they* were scared. They may or may not have told the police dispatcher that he was schizophrenic and had been drinking, both of which could be extremely dangerous when armed.
Second, just because someone may be suicidal, doesn’t mean that they also are not homicidal.
Third, appearance *does* matter. If you look like a raving, intoxicated lunatic, don’t be surprised if people are apprehensive when near you.
And fourth, how large do you suppose that bedroom is? This means the police are close enough to the man that he could easily close the gap between them in a single second. And he has a knife.
Had I been the police officer in question, under the circumstances even a Taser doesn’t even come close. If you use a billy club, there is a very good chance you would get slashed.
Sorry, Charlie.

Youd think *this* would be a perfect situation for a taser.
Here locally they tazered a guy at a shooting range to arrest him. Both cop were shot and killed. Sometimes you should shoot and sometimes you should tazer and sometimes you should think again before confronting.

Gee that’s clever. I’m humbled by you’re wit. Now why don’t you go taser somebody’s grandmother and get your jolly’s.

...Morales was threatening himself with knives. ...fired two shots at Morales, who was hit twice in the torso and pronounced dead at a hospital.
Yep, that'll sure teach people not to threaten suicide. I'll bet the "relatives" are really glad they called in the police to protect him.
When your only tool is a gun, any solutions you come up with are likely to involve shooting.
