I don’t think the Army is on the streets. There was a supposed statement yesterday from the Army that they wouldn’t attack their country’s own citizens. Such “neutrality” could be the deciding factor as to whether the mullahs can be overthrown.
On the other hand, the police and the Revolutionary Guards are separate organizations from the Army. So the key to the mullahs’ survival may be whether the cops and the RG have the necessary weaponry and determination to suppress the popular movement. Only time will tell.
