He’s right, but his dad wasn’t willing to gun down the Iranian populace to maintain control. Jimma may get to see how wrong he was about the Shah in upcoming days.

The Shah was not perfect by a long shot, but as Middle-Eastern nations go, he certainly wasn’t the worst character around.

Carter, and now Obama both treated our allies like dirt. It’s deja vu all over again.

I was there in Tehran as well during the revolution in 1979. The lead up to the revolution included mass demonstrations, shouting from the roof tops, strikes, power cut offs, etc. The Iranian Revolution was a coalition of forces including the students, bazaaries, intelligentsia including exiles, and the mullahs. They eventually took the Shah down with help from Carter and Vance who convinced the Shah not to use Savak to eliminate the opposition.

The mullahs hijacked the Revolution. It is going to be very difficult this time to overthrow the regime since the mullahs and the poor, their power base, will be difficult to overcome, especially since the mullahs have no compunction on the use of force to keep themselves in power.
