My union, the Writers Guild, did this years ago. A couple of things to watch for: how do they define/certify “partnership”? Is it living together one year? Is it a simple declaration, “He or she is my partner”? (The Writers Guild doesn’t demand proof.) Secondly, will the benefits also be extended to all domestic partners of employees, heterosexual as well as homosexual? (The Guild says no to heterosexual domestic partners, justifying it by saying that heterosexuals have the option of marrying and have declined to do so.)
