True to an extent. The Brits will survive only if they retain a sense of humour. Alas, the politically correct climate over there has dampened and forgive me if I boast- a once humorous application to things topical. It was Gilbert and Sullivan who chuckled at the problems of law enforcers. It was they who got into the mind and practice of the criminal. Thus:
"When the cut-throat isn't occupied in crime-
Pied in crime.
He loves to hear the little brook a-gurgling'
Brook a-gurgling
And listen to the merry village chime
Village chime".
The light opera goes on to commiserate with the constabulary. They carry the burdens of enforcement with them all the time. When the criminal feels like it, he can "lie a-basking in the sun". The whole thing with the former detainees in an Island paradise, is one great comic opera.
One thing though, the laugh is on Western civilization.
