WASHINGTON (AP) -- Lockheed Martin Corp.'s F-22 program got an unexpected lift Wednesday after House lawmakers approved $369 million to continue production of the radar-evading fighter jets.

The surprise amendment, likely to reopen a debate over the necessity of the Cold War planes that cost $140 million each, was approved by the House Armed Services Committee by a vote of 31-30, along party lines.

The extra funding was adopted as part of the 2010 Defense Department spending bill mark-up. The bill still needs to make its way through the full House and Senate.

I’d rather see it spent on that than welfare and parks.

Well, my prediction appears to be coming true. Obama will have a very hard time trying to kill the F-22 program.

....necessity of the Cold War 21st Century Warfighter planes..... is amply justified by the latest developments in North Korea and Iran.

"Journalists" are mindless, uneducated, worthless pukes!

The same stuff they found trillions of to bail out Wall Street, Corrupt Banks, bankrupt automobile companies, etc., etc.

Note to America:
National Defense is actually a Constitutional responsibility of the Federal Government, unlike the rest of the Federal Budget.

It’s the only 5th generation air superiority fighter in the world and not from the Cold War.

only 5th gen fighter...for now...

frankly, with the vastly superior numbers of certain possible adversaries in the fighter area, we need as many of these as possible to to bring things back to being more in our favor...

I predicted before the F-22 production run is over 400+ F-22 fighters will be built, despite the the Obama administration.

it depends on how far the chop the final number...the reason for the high price tag is because they substantially decreased the size of the order from an originally planned 700-800...when you have to pay for all the R&D, it decreases the price when you spread those costs over a larger number of aircraft...same problem that they had with the B-2...only a couple dozen planes to absorb all the development costs and all of a sudden you have bombers that cost north of 2B each...order a hundred or so and you suddenly decrease the per unit costs significantly...
