think you are a bit misguided at how “Hits” are counted. They come from server requests for a particular site/page. Opening a FR window and just leaving it open is only one hit, no matter how long it sits there.

I know that. That was my point. Am I missing something? I close it and come back many, many times a day. I don’t let it sit there open.
It seems to me the Huff-pig-ton Po numbers are too high. There are several tools available to refresh the web-page you are visiting ( = a new hit ) at the time frame you will set it up. Firefox has an Add-on for this on the following link:
