If they have such great barbecue, why do they feature ribs on their web page?

Texas is definitely a heavyweight in the BBQ world and practically owns the chili world, and rightly so, but don’t write off other Southern BBQ, or Kansas City either. I’ve had Georgia BBQ (I live here), Tennessee BBQ, North and South Carolina BBQ, and heard many praises of Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama BBQ. I’ve had sweet tomato BBQ, vinegar BBQ, mustard BBQ and sauceless BBQ. IT’S ALL GOOD. The primal smell of pork, beef or even chicken smoking over a hardwood fire is compelling and powerful, no matter where you find it or what sort of sauce or rub you put on it. I do hope to sample Texas BBQ some day.

Dreamland is the most smoke-saturated premises I’ve been to. Also heard that Swallow in the Hollow in Roswell/Alpharetta is a BBQ heavy.

You'd have to ask their publicity guy about that.

Their Pork Burnt Ends are beyond delicious. Heck, everything they serve is excellent.

But only in a pinch.

Besides, done right, it is very acceptable. It’s not pork, though.

I haven’t gotten the chance to eat there, yet. Next time hubby and I are in the area, we’ll have to go there. I’m gonna be on the Coast next week, for my annual Girl Cousin Reunion, but I don’t know if the rest of them will want to go there.

Sweet tea is fine, but I can imagine the absolute deliciousness of a BBQ pork sandwich with a bottle of Sam Adams Summer Ale. *Drool*

The Shed's not a beer joint. It's a BBQ joint that happens to serve beer. I expect that since it's in the Deep South, it makes some really good sweet tea, too!

It's not too far from where my older sister and her husband live, and I have driven by it, just have not had the chance to go in, yet.

Actually, the best I ever had was a place called Cobb's Barbecue in Shreveport, La. Best damn barbecued chicken I have ever had. Never tasted any other as good. They burned down about 20 years ago and AFAIK it was never rebuilt. Wish I could find a place like it. Never even had BBQ brisket till I came to Houston in '76.

You're right about chili. It originated in Texas on the old trail rides. No tomatoes, no beans, cubed steak-not hamburger, garlic, onion, peppers, cumin, mexican oregano, masa to thicken...salt to taste...but since I don't like eating only meat, I usually add pinto beans (I know, I know I'm committing the gravest of sins) :).

You must repent from your bean sins. You probably even snuck a spoonful of tomato paste in there, didn’t you? Oh!
