One of the little-known factoids about the Inside-the-Beltway industry is that everything is done by staffers. It is his staffers who are doing all the legwork — when the time comes, they’ll simply prop Kennedy up on a chair and give him the limelight.
You can change politicians all you want, but until you get rid of the staffers, you will change nothing. They know how things work, who gets things done, and where all the skeletons are hidden. They are the real power in Washington — most politicians lack the brains to understand basic legislation, much less the monstrosities that emanate from Congress.
Remember, nobody does something for nothing. These staffers get paid a pittance...officially. They work for the power it allows them to exercise; and for the wealth they will receive when they leave, and go to work for a lobbying firm. It is corruption beyond anything you can imagine.
Ain't that the truth.
