The Narcissist in Chief

Telegraph reporter Stephanie Gutmann describes her reaction to Barack Obama’s appearance in Berlin: “After it was over I picked up the phone and called a friend back home. ‘It’s worse than we thought,’ I told him. ‘The guy’s actually crazy.’”

Guttman was talking about candidate Obama’s agenda as he presented it that day, in which he promised to take on the terrorists in Afghanistan, take on the drug dealers, rebuild Afghanistan, eliminate the building nuclear threat, secure all loose nukes, decrease arsenals from another era, form a new global partnership that will end terror networks, redistribute wealth, save the planet, withdraw all troops from Iraq, keep the oceans from rising, end famine, and reduce carbon output. Most politicians would have quit after two or three such ambitious proposals.

Incredibly, there are Obamanutz among us who honestly don’t realize that Barack Obama is a narcissist of the worst kind.

I’m not a big fan of these psychological evaluations from afar. Every president is subject to them and found mentally ill by certain segments of the opposition. It gets old. Obama may be more narcissistic than average, but what presidential candidate isn’t? It’s not his narcissism that is the problem it’s his inability to see that everything he knows isn’t so.

Which wouldn't be a problem were it not for his narcissism.

Reagan perhaps. George Washington certainly.

The author makes an interesting distinction between a puffed up ego and narcissism, that challenges the idea of even blow hards of necessarily being a narcissist.

Every president is subject to them and found mentally ill by certain segments of the opposition. It gets old.

An even older and ubiquitous trend is for some to conclude the president is doing well, yet some conclude they are not, and yet others conclude its a mixed bag. However, old and common these patterns are, one of these groups is more correct than the others.

Give him a break already, he has only been in office for what seems like 5 years.
CBS, ABC, PBS, MSNBC, CNN, BBC America, and NBC are all reporting that the President passed gas today. All the reporters who were able to get a whiff before the rush of the media caused it to dissipate report that it was a very pleasant smell seeped in purity.

If you read the article, it says having narcissitic traits doesn’t make you a pathological narcissist.

Narcissim is a continuum as are all psychological traits.

Yet, isn't that a main part of narcissism? I'm no fan of psychological evals from afar, either, yet it's important we understand what we're up against. I contend this guy isn't a "run of the mill" narcissist. This isn't a case of yet another arrogant politician, this is a guy who *literally* sees himself as a kind of god. And, no, I'm not kidding. People like that CAN'T be reasoned with. At all.

"Barack Obama is a narcissist of the worst kind."

Dr. Charles Krauthammer, a very respectable psychiatrist, has also noted that Obama is a narcissist.

If one would but read the article one would see that the author give examples of almost every instance of the characteristics of the narcissist. I thought I was going to have to do it myself and could think of examples illustrating every symptom listed.

ZERO is off his nut, is already dangerous and as his narcissistic supply wanes he will lash out becoming every more dangerous. He is cracking already and we will be the victims. If he makes it to run for reelection and is rebuffed he will become hellish.

“It?s not his narcissism that is the problem it?s his inability to see that everything he knows isn?t so.”

Um, that’s part of narcissistic personality disorder, a key part actually. Also, NPD is to typical politicians’ narcissism what ebola is to a cold...

Ignoring the mention S. Vaknin, this is an exceptional article. I look forward to reading the author's book.

Narcissim is a continuum as are all psychological traits.

Skill at basket ball is a continuum. And some people are notably good at it. Particularly people in the NBA which tend to be way better at it then the general public. And within the NBA, it still makes sense to to try to determine if some players are better at basketball then others. Particularly if you are a involved in a franchise, or even from afar as a sports commentator.

But wait! Basket ball skill is subjective. So who are we to say that NBA star Michael Jordan really plays better than the actor Danny Devito?

He is brilliant. And has the ability to translate his thoughts into terms we can all absorb.

What I am worried about is that the narcissism within uhbama that is so extremely blatant and surely could be classified as neurotic is so totally missed by the main press reporters and commentators for the major news networks except for Fox.

I mean...is it possible that cris matthews and charlie gibson (what a flack! get the kneepads out fast!) and matt lauer and olbermann and of the sheeple are really that stupid? That blind that they actually do not see what a narcissistic slug uhbama is? My husband says yes, but I dunno. Sometimes I think they CHOOSE to ignore it because they are corrupted, themselves.

A pathological narcissist can be very charismatic — a master of molding themselves to a situation to please whomever they perceive to have the power or approval which they seek. Because they mold themselves so well, they are masters at fooling even intelligent people. It's part of the development of pathological narcissism in childhood. The child needs to survive their circumstances and therefore they become what they must to survive — NOT at all to say that this justifies the adult behaviour. It doesn't. It does, however, explain why so many people can be fooled by them.
