Let’s not get over confident. This battle is not over by any means. It’s good to hear that there is opposition developing among some Democrats in Congress. But this isn’t over yet.
I heard something about the “reconciliation” of the budget which would somehow bypass a Senate filibuster, and require exactly 51 Senate votes, instead of 60 to break a filibuster. Anybody know if that’s true, because if so, we’re in trouble with trying to stop this. Somehow healthcare “reform” would be tied in with the budget and just be enacted that way. I hope it’s not true because then we really have our work cut out for us to block this.
Reconciliation was being talked about quite a bit a few weeks ago.
Since then, Max Baucus (Dem Chair who's in charge of health care and leans somewhat conservative at times) has said he prefers to get Repub support for a health care bill.
Haven't heard much about reconciliation since then, though I suppose they could still do it.
