UPDATE: The governor’s office issued a statement Monday afternoon: "Gov. Sanford is taking some time away from the office this week to recharge after the stimulus battle and the legislative session, and to work on a couple of projects that have fallen by the wayside. We are not going to discuss the specifics of his travel arrangements or his security arrangements."

The whereabouts of Gov. Mark Sanford have been unknown to state officials since Thursday, and some state leaders are questioning who is in charge of the executive office.

Neither the governor’s office nor the State Law Enforcement Division has been able to reach Sanford, who left the mansion in a black SLED Suburban SUV, said Sen. Jake Knotts and three others familiar with the situation who declined to be identified.

Sanford’s last known whereabouts were near Atlanta, where a mobile telephone tower picked up a signal from his phone, authorities said.

One official familiar with the situation said there is no indication that foul play is involved.

. . . . .

First lady Jenny Sanford told The Associated Press her husband has been gone for several days and she doesn't know where. She said she was not concerned. Jenny Sanford said the governor said he needed time away from their children to write something.

...Still, I do find it a little strange that he would choose to do this on Father’s Day of all days, leaving his boys with their mother on a day that they’re supposed to be male-bonding with their dad.

You must have read lots of Cosmo, Redbook, and LHJ, I guess. Your posts content seems to come straight from their pages. You have a concept and a vision which may or may not be realistic. You know nothing of Mark Sanford's family life, any much more the guy that lives in the house two doors down from you.

How much psychology have you studied? How much do you know about the male mind? Do you realize that men and women have different ideas about life? I can start with Bible quotes, but really don't need to, do I?

It isn't about Dad's day. It is about what Dad does with HIS day (as you wish!) if there is to be one. None of us live like Ozzie and Harriet. Most of life is more Eddie Haskell. But, even Ward Cleaver liked to be alone some times. Picture Jethro Gibbs building a sailboat in his basement. That is the dream of lots of guys. It isn't about sailing it!

Some Dad's involve their children in every event. Others don't. None of them is worthy of our criticism, FRiends. They all surely enjoyed the event that set it all in motion... and the children are their fruit!

As to Mark Sanford, I hope he is rested and ready for the next battle! I'll bet he hugged his wife and kids when he got home! I'd bet he's done it before all the scrutiny! Note the kids faces and energies.

Not sure what you're talking about--I see one of the four boys smiling, and parents and the rest don't look like it. In fact that photo makes me feel worse for the kids for whatever is going on and no dad on Father's Day.

THIS is the first time I’ve heard it

I finally heard something about it on the news today. It's a strange story.

...that photo makes me feel worse for the kids for whatever is going on and no dad on Father's Day.

You completely missed the point I am making. There is no "Father's Day". There is an artificial suggestion that we need to spend time with family on "Father's Day". If it is truly Father's day, then it is a day to do whatever, wherever, with or without whomever... You are judging based on press accounts by an opposition candidate, and the suggestion of some "impropriety" of a "tradition" The quotes are there for a reason. These are artifice. You extrapolate suppositions to conclude that this guy is "neglecting" his children OR WORSE. He's making you "feel worse". Oh, no! Your entire argument is about YOUR FEELINGS.

Your wanting this to be about Father's day so bad, makes me wonder how much time your Dad spent with you. Mark Sanford's kids are doubtless none the worse for Pop hiking last weekend. Your psyche' seems to not be faring as well... Take a hike.

You would huh? I posted a recent study by the Heritage Foundation that pointed out the South is over represented and the North is under represented in terms of military participation. And it wasn’t a small margin. Of course, you are no doubt a chicken sh— yourself, so I’m sure you can relate to your Northern brothers.

Oh, and I almost forgot, chicken sh—. Just because you googled civil war deaths and the first page you saw said it was 110k and 94k doesn’t mean it’s true. The actual combat numbers were right at 2 yankees for every confederate (around 140k to 70k). Then, we have modern things like politics. How you could call yourself a conservative is beyond me. The most conservative Northern representatives would be a moderate or liberal in many places in the South. Of course, I should no better to argue with a simpleton.

What was it?

Of course, you are no doubt a chicken sh— yourself, so I’m sure you can relate to your Northern brothers.

And you are just like most Southerners I've met, too.

Yes, well who can argue with Wikipedia? </sarcasm>

The fact of the matter is that the confederate records are so poor that the 94K figure is just as valid as your 72K figure is, perhaps more so. Here's a website created by a retired army general that explains when and how the 94K estimate was arrived at: Link

Do you have a source for your count other than Wikipedia? And pulling the figures out of that bodily orifice where you head usually resides doesn't count.

Oh, and WikiAnswers gives the 94K figure as well. So even your secondary source contradicts itself.

How you could call yourself a conservative is beyond me.

I could try and explain but without pictures and using big words I doubt you'd understand.

Of course, I should no better to argue with a simpleton.

And yet here you are. Of course when it comes to simpletons who better than you would know?

Non sequitur is troll. You will almost always find him on any thread that pertains to the birth certificate, secession, the Civil War or Abe Lincoln. Ole dishonest Abe is his or her(can’t decide which it is) fantasy man. If you really want to make the little troll mad, just bash Lincoln. He/she used to live in Illinois and now supposedly lives in Kansas.
Also posts at DU under another name. I would post it here but not sure if I can do that.

Oh, I know the idiot very well. I knew he was a real POS when we debated current military participation and political leanings by region. I provided her a link to a study from the Heritage Foundation that examined pre and post 9/11 military participation that found that the South was over represented and the North was under represented. She of course never had much to say about it and just kept yammering on with her nonsense.

You two must be drinking buddies. Your posts share a rabid, somewhat irrational quality that makes one wonder about your sanity.

I personally believe on Father's Day...as a father...you should get to relax and take it easy and do whatever you want! Hey...wait a minute, that's every day in our house :)
All I can say is poor Sanford...thought he would just walk off and be by himself and the MSM came along! Geez!

Yes, well I'm sure you're much the same. Except for the sanity part.

Why so many of you feel the need to stoop to making up your own rumors about our good governor is beyond me. You all sound like the folks at DU.

Except that I'm always right and on DU, they're always wrong.
