Americans Begin To Lose Confidence In Stimulus
AOL Money & Finance ^ | June 22, 2009 | Douglas McIntyre

A Washington Post-ABC News poll of 1,001 Americans conducted between Thursday and Friday shows that "Overall, 52 percent now say the stimulus package has or will succeed in restoring the economy, down from 59 percent two months ago."

Only an idiot would be surprised by the results. The drop in approval of the stimulus is not along party lines, although it is worse in the states which have been hardest hit by the economy.

There is precious little evidence that the stimulus package even exists despite its enormity at $787 billion. The huge majority of the money has not reached sectors of the economy where it would immediately increase hiring. Vice President Joe Biden recently said that 150,000 of the 3.5 million jobs that are supposed to be saved or created under the program are in place. Most Americans would look at that amount as slim pickings.

What is really impressive are the comments left by readers. I have been noticing more often than before there are many more voices of indignation against this President. Good news!

Since they crammed this $1.4 TRILLION dollar bill down our throats as an EMERGENCY but have not yet spent 95% of the money... what do they expect?

It seems like the funding is all set to be spent just before the 2010 elections.

I've never lost one bit of confidence in the stimulus.

You can't lose what you never had.

They’re stimulating our roads in Michigan right back to dirt but there is good news. We will probably get our local “river arts walk” and a rain garden or two.

LOL

lol Hussein is getting more harsh treatment there than he would get even on FR. Our criticisms are of much higher quality though.

Cincinnati has a 20 million defcit this year and already projected to be a 40 million defecit next year (thats now, before they figure out their stimated reveneues will be less than expected again), but the idiot dim Mayor's number one priority is streetcars...

There's just nothing like using money you don't have, and spending it on something you don't need.

The real sign that things have unraveled and that the FAKE ONE no longer has support is when the ever shrinking media turns on him and start to delve into who Obama really is as they should have during the campaign. That’s when Obama will start to fade away into “The President That Shouldn’t Have Been.” Keep your fingers crossed.

I did. I had supreme confidence!

I had confidence it would make things worse.

and what’s even more surprising is that 52% of those 1001 people are so stupid to thing that the Government can stimulate anything. The only way the gov can stimulate anything is if they give viagra away and even then they’d probably screw that up too!

Are Americans really that slow? If the election of the Obamessiah is any sort of general and true indication of Americans wit, yes.

This just goes to show 52 percent of Americans are idiots who think an economy that is continuing to contract is somehow better, and that Obama's "stimulus" which didn't do a darned thing to help private sector industries, which is what creates the jobs which pay the taxes for the "stimulus" jobs Obama did create; a larger welfare roll.

The depressing part is that over half the voters still cling vainly to the belief that Porkulus will do anything positive for the economy.

Oh contrare... the stimulus for GM was NEVER about saving jobs.

GM has opened plants in China and India.

American taxpayers helped them finance that deal and outsource the jobs lost by Americans

And, don't think for a minute that a Chinese company owns the Hummer. It's GM with a Chinese front man.

Your government at work.

IMO the whole purpose of the bill was to take power. It was quite successful doing that.

Americans believe advertising. And the O/Dems really advertised that The Stimulus Package was necessary to save YOUR job and retirement.

They couldn’t have done it better if Billy Mays was pitching it.
