Letter from a Birmingham Jail (O's cowardice on Iran)
U. of Pennsylvania ^ | April 16, 1963 | Rev. MLK

I cannot sit idly by in Atlanta and not be concerned about what happens in Birmingham. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. Never again can we afford to live with the narrow, provincial "outside agitator" idea. Anyone who lives inside the United States can never be considered an outsider anywhere within its bounds.

Link in Christopher Hitchens Real Clear Politics (brilliant) article today. Hitchens said O quoted MLK in his lame remarks, but should have used this quote instead concerning his reticence, in fact, his voting "present" on Iran.

Also consider the words of Ronald Reagan when the Polish shipyard workers rebelled against their communist government. Bambi is such a worthless turd.

I agree with MLK. We should all take some responsibility as Americans for what goes on--in America. As for what happens in the rest of the world, we should do what's in our own best interests. My heart goes out to poor slobs in crappy countries everywhere, but we can't solve the world's problems. Iranians need to deal with Iran.

The problem for America is that no good deed goes unpunished. The more you try the more they’ll hate you.
