Forgive me for the suggestion I am about to make.

The term “tea party” has been
Alinskied and marginalized in the media. Maybe it is the Tea Bag symbol that has been the problem.

With all the sharp minds here at FR would an attempt to rename the cause be worthwhile? From a marketing stand point?

The cause is a huge as any ever and the symbol does not exemplify the seriousness of the challenge we all face.
