“...Same thing with alcohol or even prescription drugs. There’s a concept known as personal responsibility....”
Same with food, money and fame...
The list of being ILLEGAL has to start somewhere. What you’re proposing is “everything’s legal” as long as you’re responsible?
The point is, this government is more concerned about making cigarettes, gardening and soda pop illegal, then they’ll be legalizing POT! Make sense? You see where this is headed I hope...
Why does the list have to start ANYWHERE?
What’s the basis?
Government control of an individual’s desires?
Government monopoly on taxed revenue?
When you start making lists, it’s kind of hard to stop.
I know lots of people, mostly my age (in their 50's) who frequently will have a little puff in the evening (instead of a martini) and function in society just fine.
Just because some teenager does crack (and once smoked pot) it doesn't mean the government should deprive responsible adults of things that affect no one adversly.
“What youre proposing is everythings legal as long as youre responsible?”
If I want to do something that is utterly stupid, pointless, but harms no other person-—yes, conservatism once said that was my personal, God given freedom.
But when that act harms another, my freedom has gone too far-—and we punish the ACT of harming another person.
That would be old school conservatism, or classical liberalism as once derived.
Milton Friedman, Barry Goldwater.
Yes, it's called "liberty" and I thought that was a concept endorsed by most people claiming to be conservative.
I don't want to live under a liberal nanny-state and I certainly don't want to live under a conservative nanny-state either.
