Key Iranian Dissident Riled at Obama's Approach
NewsMax ^ | June 23, 2009 | Kenneth R. Timmerman

A key Iranian dissident tells Newsmax he was stunned when he heard President Barack Obama tell reporters that, despite government's brutal crackdown in Tehran, the Islamic Republic has time to regain “legitimacy” in the eyes of the Iranian people.

“I was hoping President Obama would lead the world and start a boycott of Iranian oil,” said former presidential candidate and opposition activist Mohsen Sazegara. “This is the best way to save the lives of the Iranian people.”

Instead, Sazegara told Newsmax, he listened to Obama’s news conference on Tuesday with a sense of disbelief.

It's "not too late for the Iranian government to see there is a peaceful path that leads to legitimacy in the eyes of the Iranian people,” Obama told reporters when asked for his reaction to the violence in Iran.

Sazegara, who was involved in the reform movement in the 1990s but eventually left Iran after the reformist government jailed him, said he listened to Obama with a sense of “deep, deep, deep regret. I never expected President Obama to say something like that.”

“I had been expecting Obama to say we promise the people of Iran we won’t deal or negotiate with any government that does not represent the majority of the people in Iran. I had expected him to be very clear.”

I think he mistook him for Ronald Reagan, although how
I don’t know.

Mohsen has a track record of being shortsighted and getting disappointed. First with Khomeini... now Obama. Hey, Mr Sazegara... you didn’t pay attention that Barry O is only interested in cozying up to nutjob?

Obama couldn't even lead a horse to water if he had it reins and the trough was a foot in front of him.

Agreed. Not just silly, but “evil”. In the opinion of many Obama is little more than an acolyte of the Anti-Christ. Now there is evidence that he can be counted on to behave as if he is when up against the current clique ruling Iran.

This poor man is laboring under the delusion that Barry is:

A) An American

B) The valid President of the USA

C) Inclined toward America's interests around the world

D) Favorable to the concept of liberty

E) Equipped with a human soul

None of these assumptions has any basis in fact.

0 doesn't have a clue with respect to nation building or even maintaining a nation. He has been indoctrinated with the socialism mantra, he can't see the forest for the trees. I thought his performance today was pathetic. Even Helen Thomas hung her head in shame (no picture) or else she was sleeping.

If 0 had okayed the development of off shore drilling, and other immediate energy sources, Iran couldn't hold him hostage. O has spent his options, and is now reduced to platitudes.

Wait til the Koreans jerk his chain.

“Obama claims to be like President Lincoln,” Sazegara said. “Then he should uphold the principles of Lincoln.”

I guess the silver lining to all of this is that some people are finally taking their cold shower...

On a personal level, whenever I hear the whine of "on the other hand" and "a delicate balance" and "walks a tightrope" a la media, from anyone I immediately head for the door. This is the stink-warning telltale sign of liberal moral equivalency, and any dealings with them will get you sold out in a jiffy.

0bama only thinks of how what he says will affect himself. He does not know how to care about the fight for freedom in Iran. He’s PROBABLY upset at the media coverage it’s getting. HE thinks they’re taking HIS stage. He just wants it to end so he can go back to being the Media-darling he knows he is.

He thinks like a spoiled ten year old child.
