Poi and Lomi Salmon take time to get used to.

I'm convinced that poi is one of those ethic foods that those initiated in it get a kick from the those not familiar with it. It's a joke to them to see us squirm. I've been fooled by Hawaiians to taste poi, by Mexicans to taste a pepper that really wasn't that hot (yeah, right!), and by the Japanese to savor the treat umeboshi. It only took one time for me to by-pass these delicacies forever.

Poi is laughingly called “wall paper paste” here. LOL but it was one of the original items of food (taro plants) that was brought by the first indigenous peoples when they settled the islands, along with bread fruit trees and pigs.You might say equivalent to buffalo to the plains Indians and salmon to the N.West Coast Indians.
