Anti-Christian Bigotry at The Washington Post
Fox News ^ | June 19th, 2009 | JAMES P. PINKERTON

Posted on 06/24/2009 4:43:50 PM PDT by rhema

Are Christian missionaries “pernicious”? The Washington Post seems to think so. You know the word “pernicious,” which Webster’s defines as “highly injurious or destructive.” Webster’s then offers these synonyms for “pernicious,” including, “noxious,” “deleterious,” and “detrimental.”

As is so typical of the Post, and of the MSM in general, this little bit of bigotry was a throwaway, a gratuitous dig–-a dig, of course, that reveals much about The Post’s underlying mentality.

In a review of a book about a botanical garden in Hawaii, Carolyn See, a longtime contributor to the Post’s “Style” section, includes this nasty little aside about newcomers who changed the ecosystem of Hawaii: “then white people and their pernicious missionaries.” Needless to say, no other group was similarly saddled with an insulting modifier. Only missionaries are “pernicious.”

For perspective, we might try to imagine the reaction if the writer had written, say, “black people and their pernicious ministers.” Or “Jews and their pernicious rabbis.” Or “Muslims and their pernicious mullahs.”

It is the Washington Compost.

And what do you put in a Compost pile to get it started, manure. Real smelly manure.

I strongly disagree with labeling missionaries as “pernicious.” Some of my best friends are missionaries. Some people I dislike are missionaries. But they are by no means pernicious, nor are they, the ones I know, taking advantage of either the nationals nor the environment.

As Darwin said, if you are shipwrecked on a remote Pacific isle, you had better hope that the missionaries got there before you (and had converted the cannibals).

The anti-humanitarian Washington Post addressing the subject of religion.

“then white people and their pernicious missionaries.”

same sort of slurs you hear as casual preudo-enlightened-crusader conversation between the officers on Law & Order and other TV shows, in movies, even the occasional sports column.

Nothing gets under the skin of those fighting on the wrong side of the spiritual warfare waging unseen all around us like those who seek to represent and spread the saving message of the God of the Bible.

The battle will never be a fair one.

The enemy has many paths to offer the lost, and they feel a natural hostility to those seeking to honor God.

"Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it." Matt. 7:13-14

Precisely.

Nor are they good caretakers of the environment. The locals that I know often are from nomadic hunters and gatherers. They live in one location until they have soiled the environment and then move to a new location within their territory. They make a circuit, returning to the first location only when the jungle has reclaimed it and renewed it.

No, it won't. Because when I am on God's side, having enlisted in His Army, I have all the necessary weapons at hand.

I've come to regard such slams as self-outing. I think the correlation between the willingness to write such a slur (as opposed, perhaps, to thinking or believing it because one was taught that by some Frankfurt School Marxist termite) and active homosexuality is pretty high. Lots of liberals think less of Christians; but gays are driven to attack them. JMHO.

You're aware, aren't you, of a pervasive attack on Republican officeholders going on right now under WH auspices, attacking GOP'ers on moral grounds?

I wonder if Demcrats are behind this - Christian conservative do vote Republican. And the strings at the Post are pulled by the liberal establishment.
