The Culture: Long Before 'Thriller,' Jackson Shattered Racial Barriers
Washington Post ^ | Friday, June 26, 2009 | Wil Haygood

In 1972, when the movie "Ben" premiered and sent that falsetto voice of little Michael Jackson soaring across movie screens, the joy inside black America was palpable. It wasn't just that the song raced to No. 1 on the charts, it was that it flowed from the magic of film. And black America, long kept away from mainstream movies, kept a close eye on -- and a keen interest in -- the world of Tinseltown.

Little Michael had come upon this particular movie only 18 years after the collapse of legal segregation in the United States. And many of the movie houses that showed "Ben" had once been theaters where blacks could not gain admittance. In urban America, the reality of the times had hardly gone unnoticed. The '60s may have been over, but the battles it took to shape them still hung in the air.

In the '70s, groups of middle-aged black Americans could still reminisce about the chitlin circuit and the world of vaudeville, two popular venues for gifted black performers. Maybe they had seen Moms Mabley out there on the circuit; maybe they had seen Redd Foxx in some pungent-smelling juke joint in Atlantic City; maybe they had even seen the high-stepping Nicholas brothers -- Fayard and Harold -- soaring over chairs on a stage over in Baltimore.

Before politics took a more defiant tone, and before the arrival of wonderful-sounding black ministers (Gardner Taylor, Adam Clayton Powell Jr., Martin Luther King Jr.), it was music that black America offered to mainstream society as a kind of plea for acceptance. There were Scott Joplin and Louis Armstrong; Duke Ellington and Lena Horne. Of course, Billie Holiday and Charlie Parker.

As the joke goes, only in America could a poor black boy grow up to become a rich, white woman...

Leave it to a liberal rag to turn death into a racial issue.

I don’t care at all. Why don’t they tell me what barriers Neda’s brutal murder will break?

This is b.s.,
Jackson ran from being a black guy.
Had his skin color purged at great expense.
He was a freak and a buggerer.

WTF, a child molester dies and society is supposed to be sad? Throw his emaciated carcass into the sewer where it belongs and move on.

Michael Jackson with the undying support of his “fans” (or fanatics) in the face of his more than questionable activities concerning the abuse of children, still hold him up as an idol.

Jackson, both in his family life as a child and his adult life, is a modern extension of pedagogical pagan pedophilia of previous ages in ancient civilizations.

Was Freudian psychoanalytic theory of sexual stages in psychological development more accurate than accredited?

The Michael Jackson Complex is fixation on mutilation of and deviance with human anatomy in the media. It is a social psychosis catering to the lowest common denominator and generated with Pavlovian behavioral conditioning in popular culture.

Should we really be canonizing special societal privileges in the law based on idolatrous fetishes?

Disability, welfare, Social Security, etc., etc., ad nausea...

The social psychosis generated by behavioral conditioning (Pavlov’s salivating dogs) in the popular culture and the conditioned response to accept the false premises of mental illness or birth defect will be used as a political tool to systematically rob the public purse.

Then, we could have other self-inflicted mental illness and disease (aside from those we already do) subsidized by the government consolidating an ever increasing portion of the economy in the hands of the cultural Marxists.

“The social psychosis generated by behavioral conditioning...”

This gets a great many people out of having to THINK and to BE. “Thinking” and “Being” (or a state of assuming responsibility for ones self) seems to terrify most people.

The end product of this process is rap, the NBA, and 0bama. America should weep.

Did the post do a nice write up on Farrah Faucet ? She may not have been an angel, I didn’t follow her that closely, but at least she wasn’t a child molester, and she passed away the same day

I heard on the news last night not once, but twice, about the racial ‘barriers’ Michael Jackson broke down on MTV in the early 80’s. Why, did you know those backwoods racist KKK crackers on MTV never played a single black artist’s video before Michael came along?

Well, we’ve righted that wrong, I guess. Now, instead of innovative music videos and great tunes by white (and black) artists, we now have a network that, when they do play videos, hand it over almost exclusively to black hoodlum thug rappers who rivet us with tales of they bitches, hoes, $90,000 Escalades and Mercedes, drug use, semi-nude sluts and filthy gutter language.

Yes, progress is a wonderful thing, isn’t it?
