COLUMBIA, S.C. Just after South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford admitted to a yearlong extramarital affair, his state's largest newspaper posted online romantic, suggestive e-mails that it says were exchanged between the chief executive and his Argentinian lover.
The State of Columbia redacted the full name of the woman, identifying her only as "Maria," but their contents clearly show they were more than friends.
The newspaper says it has had the messages since December, which would be about the time Sanford says his wife found out about the tryst. In a message to The Associated Press, managing editor Steve Brook declined to immediately elaborate on why it chose not to publish the e-mails earlier.
In an interview on CNN's "Larry King Live," State reporter John O'Connor said the newspaper was sent the messages from the governor's personal e-mail account by an anonymous person.

Does anyone have a picture of this babe?
I tried to find one on the internet but am coming up empty.
I think we need a “guilty” / “not guilty” poll.
The old game the ruskies used to play?
Excellent theory.
...never got bothered when Clinton did it.....
Well. he did get impeached over lying about it even though not convicted.
a post yesterday claimed it was “Maria's” ex-husband who revealed them to the Columbia newspaper. If that were the case, then, perhaps the admission at this time was to short circuit a blackmail attempt.
Remarkable how much work the media will do to dig up romantic emails and how little to investigate a presidential candidate!
>> My guess it was the mistress herself. <<
A very good theory!
Or as Cole Porter told us in 1928, “Argentines without means do it.”
Obama got rid of his Democrat opponent when he was running for state office by discovering that she did not have enough legal signatures on her petition, something that had probably been going on forever in Chicago. He got rid of his Republican opponent in the senate race by getting the media to open his divorce records. Not saying that this case fits the mold, but I suspect there will be quite a bit of this kind of action against any candidate with reasonable expectations to nip the supreme leader in the next election.
Just look at the radical mindlessness of the governor’s disappearance and the uproar it caused as the state found out that it’s governor was missing and state security could not find him but had found the abandoned car, cell phone cut off etc., the governor self destructed in a very dramatic way displayed mental instability, this wasn’t Obama.
