Yes, but if those eight Republicans had voted "NAY" then those Democrat congressmen would have had to have voted "YEA" and thus weakened their position in their home districts making it easier for a Republican challenge.

So these eight traitorous Republicans not only voted for the bill but they also allowed some Democrat congressmen to maintain a strong position in their districts.

I don't know. They held their fingers to the wind until well after the R's voted, both on the amendment and the bill.
