Gov. Palin has history working against her. No Republican has ever been the losing Vice Presidential candidate, and then gone on to win the Presidential nomination.
One Democrat has, however, so that might give her some hope. The losing Dem Veep candidate in 1920 went on to a fair amount of political success.
And, the Party rarely nominates liberals.
McCain was prolife and pro 2nd Amendment, but not perfect, on both counts.
On many of the other issues McCain was a liberal, and he NEEDED Palin to “balance the ticket” and make conservatives happy.
Palin will be the first.
There’s always a first for everything.
Before Sarah Palin, when did a vice-presidential nominee attract more interest and support than the top of the ticket?
Before Sarah Palin, when did people honestly say they couldn’t stand the presidential nominee but came out to vote for the running mate?
Before Sarah Palin, when did a vice-presidential debate draw more TV viewers than a presidential debate during the same election?
Before Sarah Palin, when did a defeated vice-presidential nominee attract more public and media interest than the elected vice president?
Before Sarah Palin, when did a defeated vice-presidential nominee immediately become the leading contender for their party’s presidential nomination next time out?
Sarah Palin, like Barack Obama, is upending conventional wisdom about presidential politics. Who could have foreseen a candidate like Obama making it to the White House?
I did this on another thread when someone posted this “history is against her” nonstarter. So since someone has decided to post it again, my rebuttal also bears repeating.
No woman had ever been Governor of Alaska. Until Palin.
No one as young as 42 had been Governor of Alaska. Until Palin.
No woman had ever been the Vice Presidential candidate for the Republican party. Until Palin.
So I’d say she doesn’t let “history” stop her if she feels called to do something. And so far, it hasn’t.
