Would Obama Support Cap-and-Trade If Global Warming Wasn't a Problem?

So the House of Represenatives has passed the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade bill, and the issue now heads to the Senate. In his weekly address on Saturday, Pres. Obama urged the Senate to pass the measure. What were his reasons? Basically those that are irrelevant from a sound public policy perspective: green jobs and reducing our dependence on foreign oil.

First, I've never really bought into the "dependence on foreign oil" issue. I think it's mostly rooted in politicians appealing to what Caplan would call an anti-foreign bias among the American public. With regards to the green jobs, it's nonsense to consider these jobs as a benefit of cap-and-trade. Not only do most of the green jobs just come at the expense of jobs in the "dirty" job sector, this whole talk of "jobs" is a red herring.

Using Obama's argument, if government heavily taxed coffee, we could not only reduce our dependence on foreign coffee beans, we would create more jobs in industries whose products were substitutes for coffee (say milk or orange juice). Imagine all the new dairy farmers there would be or citrus growers out there working to meet the increased demand for milk and orange juice.

Yes, simply for its redistributive effects.

Well, global warming ISN’T a problem if it were happening,

and global warming is NOT happening,

and higher CO2 levels have led to tremendous increases (14-27%) more food, fuel, fodder, and feed,

So I guess he and Nancy wold push it through to destroy the American economy anyway.

Would Obama use cap and trade if no global warming exists?

Yes.

once you come to realize Zer0 wants to destroy America
these questions are simple. the dissonance among many people is they believe Obama has the only best of
intentions of our country. You cannot name one policy, speech or action from this America hater that will amount
to anything productive.

It’s not about “global warming.” It’s about wealth redistribution.

Yes he would. It cedes sovereignty to the United Nations and implements the Bali Road Map. Look for yourself. It’s at thomas.loc.gov. The United Nations is cited in the bill at least 22 times. It is the authority that the secretary of Energy and the secretary of state are ordered to submit to. It completely corrupts the executive branch making them report to an international body. It is a constitution-killer, which Obama would support under every circumstance.

Yes. Cap and Trade is an enormous boondoggle to enrich certain interests, most notably the government. Obama has already said he wants to use one third of the money collected for income redistribution. The bill that the House passed had a provision that families with incomes at a certain percentage above the poverty level would have money from this program deposited directly into their bank accounts.

Obama could also use the money for other socialist programs he has in mind, like universal health care. (Without the money from this program, there will never be enough to fund his health program.)

Wall Street is also looking forward to securitizing the offsets that will be traded between carbon-producing enterprises. (Enron was supposed to have been very interested in cashing in on this mechanism.)

Also, there are companies that stand to make a lot of money from investing in “green” technology, like General Electric.

We are being sold down the river by our own Representatives, and they are doing it knowingly.

Of course he would. No one with an ounce of sense sees this for anything other than what it is: a tax grab. Like SSI taxes, most of the money will never make it to “Green” jobs and businesses, it’ll just be used to fund pork.

Everything the ‘Bama has done has been with a single, overriding objective; the consolidation of power. Only lies and wishful thinking are even suggestive of the contrary.

Correct.

Al Gore and Henry Paulson will profit from it as well as they own at least 10% of the Chicago Climate Exchange. Goldman Sachs is gearing up a sector of their company to trade credits as well, thanks to our tax dollars.

TARP, hard at work to destroy the american people.

No conflict of interest folks, just an Amish wagon lost its wheel.

Yes they know. But it is also why they are rushing the bill through and telling their paid propagandists in the media 'we haven't read it, ". And of course that's what the lackeys report.

You are absolutely correct. Global warming is a farce and a fraud. obama supports it anyway as part of his long term vision of a big government, socialist/fascist world-wide order of elitists.

obama, the most dangerous and disastrous President ever.
