Pelosi Won't Give Public a Week to Review Text of Health-Care Bill Before House Votes on It
SNIPPET: "At her press briefing on Thursday, Pelosi was asked whether the health-care bill would be handled differently than the stimulus bill, which came up in February. The 1,071-page final text of that bill was posted on the House Appropriations Committee’s Web site late on a Thursday night and then voted on the next day.
“When the stimulus bill came out earlier this year, members and citizens had less than two days to review the final version that came out of the conference committee before it was voted on,” CNSNews.com asked Pelosi on Thursday. “Will you commit to giving Americans at least a week to review the full conference version of the health care bill before it is voted on? And also will you commit to submitting the final version to the CBO [Congressional Budget Office] so that they can report the cost to the public?”
Pelosi would not commit to giving the public a week to review the bill, and did not respond to the question of having the CBO report on the cost of the final bill."

We need congressional reform, and the only way for that is term limits for the congress. They will not vote it for themselves. We the people, need a constitutional congress to pass an amendment setting those limits.
How does the "Common Citizen" bring this to an immediate halt, short of wearing tea bags for earrings?

Well .. it is hard 'to give a week for review ' when 300 pages are slipped into a Bill a few hours it's to be voted on.

A FANTASY: Republican leaders launch a large and well-funded media and publicity campaign to enact a law DEMANDING that all legislation be up on the web for 10 legislative days BEFORE DEBATE.
Make the speaker and the senate majority leader work to schedule their bills and amendments around this necessity, spreading the adoption process over several weeks and not 72 hours or less on unread bills.

“awww...no...we can’t do that. If we gave everyone time to think about and understand what they were voting on, they might vote against it. Since that is not the outcome we want, we will not give anyone any time to read the bill.”
In all seriousness, and I hesitate to use this phrase, there should be a law that requires bills to have 15-30 days for public / representative / senator review before they are allowed to come to vote. This whole “write a 1200 page bill, vote the next day..rush rush rush” farcical comedy needs to end.

Then, go to their web sites and get their local phone numbers and fax access. Do the same for senators. AND THEN HIT THEM WITH CALLS AND FAXES AND MAKE YOUR DISPLEASURE KNOWN. GET IN THEIR FACE AND TELL THEM THEY WILL BE OUT OF A JOB IF THEY IGNORE THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE WHO SAY NO! DEMOCRATS FIGHT DIRTY AND REPUBLICANS HAD BETTER GROW A PAIR AND DO THE SAME. I never sign anything without full review....buying a house, a car or electing someone. Why don’t people who have the ability to control our future so wistfully sign things that control our future? The stimulus bill got pushed through and was demanded it got signed cause it was such an emergency yet Barry took 3 days off to come back and sign it?
I should have said sometimes they even go to jail for it.
