The question is can they do enough damage in one strike to take Iran all the way down, or will they just make Iran angry. Iran learned from what they did to Iraq. What you are missing here is the Israeli screw up that occurred in 1973 which almost cost Israel the war. Israel delayed a pre-emptive attack because Golda Meir and Moshe Dayan wanted to be able to state to the US that Israel acted defensively. They actively made a decision to make themselves dependent on US largesse.

For this they were chastized by a government commission, condemned by the Israeli public, eliminated from government, and their historical image forever tarnished.

Hopefully Israel learned several things from this almost disaster - pre-emption trumps PR, stockpile parts, and don’t depend on anyone.
