That's not an analogy again. The chronicle was about a bunch of warring tribes, each of them was independent. They sought peace therefore agreed to invite a neutral supreme ruler from outside.

Mazepa was a Russia-dependant hetman of Cossacks, a group which hardly have an analogy. They very often changed sides, choosing from Poland, Russia, even Turkey.
