U.S. treads carefully in Honduras crisis
Los Angeles Times ^ | June 29, 2009 | Paul Richter

A U.S. effort to forestall a military takeover failed, and it is now focused on encouraging a political solution. But it doesn't threaten sanctions and won't say whether it regards events as a coup.

Reporting from Washington -- After failing to stave off the military coup in Honduras, the Obama administration moved gingerly Monday to try to undo it, leaving key levers of U.S. influence untouched as it urged Hondurans and other countries in the region to seek a settlement.

The administration's approach appeared designed to avoid damaging Washington's ties either to U.S.-allied backers of the coup that forcibly removed President Manuel Zelaya or the regional powers who have universally condemned it.

It wasn’t a coup.

It was the Supreme Court and their Congress following their constitution and laws.

GEEZUS!

Hmmm.... as our generals seem to be asleep, maybe we could get the Honduran military to overthrow OUR government, too ?!?!?!

Treads carefully?

Obama is peeing down his leg in his anticipation of trying to put a fellow marxist back in an office he was legally thrown out of.

The new USA.

Leftwing Dictators = good
Religious Fanatics = good
The only American ally in the middle east = bad

We are doomed as a nation.

So Obama says it’s illegal,...but LA Times says he is not calling it a coup...yet.

Once again, the MSM covering Obammie the Commie's trail of ineptitude by casting his reaction to foreign situation as “calibrated,” or “reserved,” or “patient,” or “thoughtful.”

Hey, Soetoro, how is that little situation in Iran “playing out”?

Typical Obama adolescent 'can't we all get along' dodge. This guy couldn't take a hard position on Adolph Hitler. "US votes 'PRESENT'"

The Honduran Congress appoints a new leader and they still call it a “military takeover”.

The Hondurans try to prevent a Chavez like takeover of their country and we waffle all over the place!

The military is not trying to take over the country as far as I can tell.

They back the constitutional succession and subsequent elections.

I'm so confused anymore. The more the MSM tries to stick-up for this clown the dumber they sound.

The LA Slimes will never tell their readers that Zelaya tried to do an end run around the Constitution by holding a “popular survey” to allow him to stay on as president (ala Hugo Chavez) using ballots flown in from Venezuela.

I admit I get confused in this rabbit hole we’ve been tossed down. I thought The Messiah didn’t want to “meddle” in Iran while the people there protest their fraudulent election, but now He’s saying that in Honduras it’s ok for Him to intervene when those people are successful in ousting a non-democratically elected prez?

It’s so hard to keep all this straight. (Are we even allowed to use that word anymore???)

our generals seem to be asleep...

Too busy on golf courses negotiating lucrative consulting jobs with the likes of Raytheon and General Dynamics after they retire from the military to be bothered with such trivialities as "enemies foreign and domestic".

the Obama administration moved gingerly Monday to try to undo it

"...no country should impose its politics or values on other countries."

If you're going to be a hypocrite, Obama, at least be a hypocrite while doing the right thing.

You disgust me.
