When you are a governor, and a leading candidate for POTUS, have a wife, four kids, you are just plain STUPID to hump a hottie from Argentina and think it is love. This woman will be gone in a few days and all Sanford will have left is nothing.
In the words of Governor Lepetomaine, “Affairs of state must take precedence over the Affairs of State.”
I'm sure she will be, and if there's anyone who really wants him to stay alive (like his wife, for the sake of their sons) they should probably put him under close suicide watch. He's obviously completely mentally unstable at this point, and when he realizes that his "soulmate" was just another thrillseeker and that his political career is utterly over, he'll really be at risk of doing himself in. Personally I think he belongs in a secure psych ward right now, under heavy medication.
