GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) — A federal judge on Tuesday struck down the Bush administration's change to a rule designed to protect the northern spotted owl from logging in national forests.

U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken ruled from Oakland, Calif., that the U.S. Forest Service failed to take a hard look at the environmental impacts of changing the rule to make it easier to cut down forest habitat of species such as the spotted owl and salmon on 193 million acres of national forests.

"This court decision sends the Forest Service back to square zero and upholds the promise ... that forest plans be meaningful and they actually protect forests," he said.

This decision means the logging industry in the Northwest in spotted owl areas remains shut down, it was a scam then and it remains a scam.

“U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken ruled from Oakland, Calif”

That pretty much sums things up. Another sham ruling.

Two things our Founding Fathers worried about. 1) Lawyers taking over the Legislature instead of regular citizens and 2) the Public getting access to the feeding trough.

Looks like both have occurred.

Okay, anybody - what do salmon have to do with the Spotted Owl and cutting down forests?

Did you read what the idiot judge had to say? I don’t understand, I thought salmon swam in the rivers and ocean - I had no idea that they inhabited forests.

Someone please enlighten me!

The enviro wackos throw everything they can into lawsuits like throwing crap against the wall and anything that sticks is what they go for, the spotted owls and salmon stuck in the federal courts.

Seriously, I believe the enviros claimed the cutting of forests degraded the streams and rivers thereby endangering salmon, the courts bought it.

Good job, Obammie’s commies!

Cut off some more access to our own natural resources...so that we have to import more...so that we (THE STRUGGLING MIDDLE CLASS THAT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS ECONOMIC MACHINE) have to pay more.

I won't hold my breath waiting for the Leftists and liberals to cry fowl about the other countries that will be exploited for this resource.

I've cooked 2 year old roosters in a pressure cooker, and they were pretty tender.

My friends now understand the difference between layers, fryers, capons, and PC birds.

I cook, I eat, I P.O. liberals... life is good.

I'm glad to see the Men in Black are paying attention to the things that really matter to the survival of the Republic.

I'd like to propose a monument to current residents of the judicial branch which really captures the spirit of their actions:

Conservatives need to start advertising and filing lawsuits against individuals that harm a persons living. Go after the Green lawyers and file legal action to tie them up in court. It would be wise to file a lawsuit after a fire for damages caused as a result of poor forest management slowed by a lawsuit.

Some Beetle killed trees are finally being removed by many rich liberals who do not want their homes burnt.

They are not openly in favor of a healthy forest but do support a large ( even if dry ) moat around their homes.

No one mentions *logging* as the crews use chain saws...heavy equipment.

A few decent logging jobs.

Will this judge gain financially from the environmentalists? Will he after he serves his time as a judge be hired as a legal consultant by the environmentalists?

This is one more example of how the Lefties have taken jobs away from Americans through regulation. Weak market demand due to the recession has already caused Weyerhaeuser to layoff workers. This type of wrongheaded litigation from this ruling will insure that jobs will not come back to these areas.

Many of these protected forests have become the domain of pot growers. Oregon is the 10th-ranked marijuana-growing state. These operations are sophisticated with irrigation systems, deer nets and booby traps. The growers know how to plant their crops to evade air surveillance. The pot growers in these areas will continue to grow their pot plants without loggers disrupting their operations.

It is ironic that the tree planting that Weyerhaeuser did in these areas would turn into the habitat for a species of bird that would prevent the harvesting of the trees you planted years ago.
