"Atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) have increased from about 280 to 380 parts per million over past 100 years. The combustion of fossil fuels, coal, oil and natural gas, has contributed to the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere. And finally, increasing concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere will cause the earth's surface to warm."
His argument is that on the balance, the warming is desirable:
"The key question is: will the net effect of the warming, and any other effects of the CO2, be good or bad for humanity?"
One of the few things I remember from chemistry is that increasing the temp increases the chemical reaction.
Respiration/oxidation is a chemical reaction.
Good point!
In fact, there is good reason to believe that the warming IS desirable. There is also good reason to believe that it is not a long term trend, that higher CO2 levels are desirable, that higher CO2 levels do not cause higher global temperatures (the reverse is true with a 1,000 year time lag), and that human CO2 inputs have no real effect on the level in the atmosphere.
It's only necessary to believe one of these things, to have good reason to oppose the idiocy being advocated by the panic mongers.
