Maybe She Got Tired of the Full-Court Press (and maybe she got tired of idiots in the press)
washington Post ^ | 7/3/2009 | Howard Kurtz

Posted on 07/03/2009 8:02:42 PM PDT by tobyhill

She survived Katie Couric and Tina Fey, searing scrutiny, rumors about her baby, anonymous taunts of "whack job" from those who once touted her credentials to be a heartbeat away.

Yesterday Sarah Palin completed a remarkable media flameout that made her one of the most famous women in the world, the exotic Alaska caribou hunter, one of the most revered and reviled politicians in modern history. The governor announced she is calling it quits, just eight months after she and John McCain went down to defeat.

She has nursed a grudge against mainstream journalists, accusing them of peddling "gossip and lies" about her family, and at her Wasilla home Palin wouldn't give the press corps the satisfaction of a clear reason for leaving in the middle of her first term and refused to take questions. "Your enemies won't believe you anyway," she said during a rambling discourse that touched on her baby, her prayers, Gen. Douglas MacArthur, her visit to Kosovo and her life as a high-school point guard.

Perhaps it was fitting that Palin bailed days after a hard-edged Vanity Fair piece in which former McCain campaign strategists questioned her mental state and even wondered whether she was suffering from postpartum depression. Still, the red-suited Republican was upbeat yesterday alongside her snowmobiler husband and kids, a contrast to the grim-faced Mark Sanford and John Ensign, who in recent weeks have begged forgiveness for their sexual transgressions.

Dittos! ... If she does nothing more than take the occasional interview and express her opinion, she will be hands down more than the LIEberals can handle, that’s why they are doing the usual democrat thing, attacking her with lies and empty soul smarm. And we have a few claiming to be Republicans and conservative at FR playing the same game. Says a lot about a lack of class and deadness in their soul. HGonesty is like sunlight to a vampire.

Now for those who are worried that Sarah Palin is not a professional politician. . .don't worry. . what she is - is real. . .and with all those McCain asshats out of the way

Just let Sarah be Sarah and she will lead a revolution that will be nothing short of the very salvation of our nation.

Our nation was meant to be led by citizens just like Sarah Palin. . .and I do believe, as did the Founders, that there is the hand of Divine Providence that covers this nation!

Once more, for emphasis. Well said. Thank you.

The GOP rarely never came to her defense even when her family was being attacked.

Fixed it.

You’re saying that the GOP came to her defense at some point? Well, anything is possible, I guess.

It will be very interesting to see who she supports, but it will be even more interesting to see who she doesn’t. There may be some GOPers who watched her being roasted on a spit by the MSM who will be begging for her endorsement. We shall see.

A Sarah strikes fear in the hearts of GOP politicians as well as the dems.

We have do nothing politicians that cave, that sit and take all the perks, enjoy legislating without reading, enjoy the perk of legislating without having to live under the legislation, who think they are the ruling class. Sarah is not of that make-up.

They know the woman has the conservative roots, and they do not want conservatism. No wonder they fear her.

They do not want her messing with their gravy wagon.

DailyKos folks are saying Palin is about to be indicted for a John Rowland-type home construction favor.

Some people just can't work up a good happy, no matter how hard they try.

We could "storm the Bastille" in DC, depose the wicked voodoo king and all of his henchmen in Congress, then vote Sarah Palin in as CIC the next day, and some people here would still find something negative to say about it.

It's a sad thing, but there it is.

And this is about the vilest thing of all. I may be wrong, but I can't think of a single Republican of national stature who came to her defense in the last eight months. Can you?

You know, she gave Texas Governor Rick Perry a big thumbs up recently, but I don't recall him making a single statement in her defense when the media was throwing hundreds of darts at her.

Now, they'll all be lined up, waiting to glad hand with her, and get just the right photo-op to bolster their own standing. I hope she cuts some of them off at the knees and leaves them walking on stumps.

“Ummm..., do they just make these things up out of thin air?”

Did you see Hanson’s recent column, “Obama and the ‘Noble Lie.’ Our philosopher-king prevaricates on behalf of us all?”

Sure they make these things up out of thin air. After all, their animating force is the father of lies.

She has nursed a grudge against mainstream journalists

So called journalists have had a grudge against her from the very beginning. I would have said worse things about the *ssholes in the press than Sarah ever did! They deserve every damn bit of the hatred directed their way!

Just WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE?! They wouldn't dare say anything like that about the Obama's kids!

How about trashing the druggie Kennedy who just left rehab to VOTE on the CRAP & TRADE? How many times has he been in rehab this year? Probably longer than he has been in elected office! But, NO, the Kennedys are off limits.

SHOVE IT, Howard!

“DailyKos folks are saying Palin is about to be indicted for a John Rowland-type home construction favor.”

Which may or may not be true.

In either case, the Republican Party’s infinite incompetence is demonstrated by the stream of Republican “rising stars” torpedoed by this sort of tempest in a teapot, while serial felons (which is to say, every demonrat) go uninvestigated.

Your note sent me to the Wikipedia article on Rowland. It is quite an eye-opener.

Oh, by the way, the denizens of DailyKos are not really “folks,” are they? I would say they are subsumed under the category of “aliosque spiritus malignos” referred to in Pope Leo’s prayer to St. Michael the Archangel.

“She has nursed a grudge against mainstream journalists”

You’re right about that. One doesn’t “nurse a grudge” against the scum of the earth. One merely evaluates them accurately.

Anyone who hires those A-holes who worked for McCain will NEVER get my vote, period!

I promised myself that I would never vote for another person who doesn’t deserve it. They can either work for it or I will stay home. It doesn’t seem to matter anyway anymore! Look at the piece of crap in office now.

The ONLY reason McCain got my vote is because of Sarah Palin! Make no mistake about it, McCain, it wasn’t YOU!

They wish. Maybe Sarah could get the kind of home deal Obama, Dodd, etc. got. I guess that's okay to those freaks!

Millions of right-leaning Americans feel exactly the same way. Sarah met most of our best standards and probably brought more votes to the McCain/Palin ticket than he did. Sarah deserved our votes.

McCain should thank her for those votes, but I'd bet good money that he never did.
